Guns of the Patriots Preview 11

- Fixed a crash that was occurring whenever a new game started without Man the Guns active. Solus Rex is no longer DLC-dependent in order to run, although some features won't work properly without the DLC listed in the description. The fix involved disabling legacy naval OOBs for Britain and Japan, so those countries will start with no navy for the time being if MtG isn't active. I'd like to fix this issue, but the game's debugging tools aren't much help narrowing it down further, and there are a lot of ships that need to be checked manually.
- Continued work on the USA focus tree.
- The political struggle in USA is more interactive.
- Working on an alternative socnat path for the USA. The AI currently will never pursue this path, which is fine.
- USA political advisors are now ruling-party-dependent.
- AI USA is more likely to pursue military focuses if it's aware of the AWR's Blizzard Plan.
- The stability impact of appeasing and offending has been drastically scaled back (it used to cap at a theoretical 20% swing in a single event, and it now caps at 5%), and I'm working on a new way of displaying appease/offend that's less visually cluttered.

Guns of the Patriots Preview 10

- I read about how volunteer troops have a history of fighting better than conscripts, so I decided to incorporate that into the conscription laws. Volunteer-only countries have a bonus to army morale and organization. High conscription replaces that with larger and larger penalties to the same.
- Nestor Makhno has a portrait and has been converted to a character.
- Ukraine and the Ukraine Free Territory have had their OOBs translated into Ukrainian (it's a Google Translate translation and may have some issues).
- The UFT starts with a few militia units instead of nothing.
- The UFT's anarchist party has a name.
- Stalino (both the state and the victory point) has been renamed to Donetsk.
- The RSFSR gained a focus to invade the UFT.
- The member states of the Soviet Union have been using their 1950s flags, which are being replaced with their 1934 equivalents, and the countries will eventually be able to switch to later flag designs during the game. Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus have been updated so far.
- Poland's flag situation has been improved.
- Continued work on the AWR focus tree.
- Changed election events so that any party within 5% popularity of the most-popular party can be selected (the old system approximates this behavior but has arbitrary cutoffs rather than variables).
- One of the layers was missing from the vanguardism icon; it's been restored.
- Continued work on the USA focus tree.

Guns of the Patriots Preview 9

I'm very close to achieving what I set out to for the "Guns of the Patriots" leg of development, and I wanted to get the update out in time for people to enjoy it before the new DLC drops. Some things are clearly unfinished, but a lot of progress has been made, and this update is probably the largest I've ever put out. The plan is still to finish the "Guns of the Patriots" milestones and then focus for a while on the CSA and Brazil in the "Southern Crosses" development leg... assuming HoI5 isn't out by then.

If you'd like to see development go faster, and you're able to pitch in, please join the mod's Discord server. I'd love to have some help with implementation.

AWR

- The Western Campaign can no longer be started while the country is at war. This change prevents a rare bug that essentially stalemated the AWR civil war.
- Louis Wright has an original portrait. It's AI-generated, and there are issues if you zoom in, but it'll do for now.
- An expansion to the AWR focus tree has begun.

British Empire / British Republic

- The event Britain gets on French rearmament was bugged so that only one option was available, and that option didn't do what it was meant to do. It's been fixed.
- The event that called for dominions to support or oppose Edward's marriage actually flagged them as doing the opposite of what they chose. It's been fixed.
- Ireland will always oppose the marriage, both because it's so strongly Catholic and because it hates being part of the British Empire.
- For the British Empire, losing control of any part of the British Isles unlocks two mutually-exclusive subtrees; one attempts to federalize the Empire in order to protect it from capitulation, and the other sacrifices the Empire to focus on defense of the Isles.
- There is the beginning of a British Republic focus tree. Some decisions promise consequences that aren't yet implemented.
- Britain starts with one extra level of economy strength, mostly to be sure France has something to take away from it.

California and the Great Plains

- California has the beginnings of a focus tree.
- These countries' starting variables (unemployment, economy strength, partisans) have been set.
- California has a starting naval OOB for MtG.
- California has some "historical" ship names.

Ireland

- Ireland's starting variables have been set.

Prussia

- Prussia's starting variables have been set.
- Memel has no reason to be part of Lithuania in this timeline, so it's been given to Prussia at game start.
- Prussia has a few country-specific focuses now.

Generic / all countries

- The scroll wheel has returned to the ideology list.
- Because the idea window was badly in need of decluttering, I've made partisans and police law/armament into hidden ideas. The State Security Operations decision heading has been expanded to show current partisan/police levels and to briefly explain the partisan system. Some countries won't show the levels properly at game start because the variables haven't manually been set yet, but an event will set them automatically shortly afterward.
- There were several mission pairs along the lines of "partisans are preparing to do the thing" ... "partisans are doing the thing." I've axed the second mission from each and just had the partisans do the thing at the end of the first mission.
- I made several balance changes to partisans and filled in gaps that had some partisans able to do things other partisans weren't for no other reason than that I hadn't gotten around to adding that functionality yet.
- The generic focus tree hooks into new hidden ideas that unlock cooperation with partisans and/or refusing to use state repression against certain ideologies.
- I was unaware decisions used a fixed random seed by default, which was messing with the intended operation of the partisan system. I believe I've fixed the issue.
- Christian Nationalism has been added as a sub-ideology of Social Nationalism, to reflect Gerald L.K. Smith and those of a similar viewpoint.
- I'm beginning to redo party icons.
- Some countries had _desc localizations in their own languages and some in English. I've decided to move toward native languages across the board, as I've already done with party names.
- The five-year plan decision has been split into three mutually-exclusive options, one geared toward civilian construction, one toward military construction, and one toward arms production. The first replaces the rapid industrialization decision.
- Rounding up the opposition no longer pays out oodles of stability.
- Most party names have been filled in for these countries: Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, California, Canada, Denmark, Greece, India, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, South Africa, Switzerland.
- Starting party popularity has been revised for these countries: Bulgaria, Ireland, Japan, Romania.
- "Grant statehood" in American Unification is a state-targeted decision rather than being hard-coded for each individual state.

L'Update Mini de la France

- The French focus tree has been reworked significantly. The economic sub-tree at the beginning is much more detailed and consequential, the diplomatic sub-tree is more responsive to the global situation, and the overall number of ideas added by focus has been greatly decreased in favor of one-time effects. France is still capable of brute-forcing its way out of the Depression early on, but there are actual steps and choices involved now.
- The victors of the Great War begin the game receiving Great War reparations from France... just so France can end the reparations with its first focus in an attempt to save its dying economy. Enjoy your boost to construction for the first seventy days, though!
- Petain's replacement is being handled by event rather than by focus. It's no longer possible to keep Petain indefinitely by not taking focuses. The same basic paths are available.
- France is getting starting production because having to assign production at the beginning of every playthrough is even more annoying in testing than it is in regular gameplay.
- Austria will no longer randomly screw itself over by invading countries that are in a faction with France if it isn't already at war with France.
- There is no longer a Maginot Line at game start, as it didn't make historical sense in this setting, and it practically guaranteed a stalemated Alsatian civil war.
- The reworked partisan system for Guns of the Patriots is inching closer to completion.
- The Kingdom of Two Sicilies has received a tiny update.
- A bug that caused the Palatinate not to be counted as part of the West German Federation is fixed.

A Cheeky Update with the Prince of Wales

- Britain has a focus tree, sort of. Think of the other placeholder focus trees.
- Britain has a writeup in the country select screen.
- Britain got its starting navy back (it had been temporarily removed as a kludgy way to achieve BBA compatibility).
- Britain has the abdication crisis, similar to the one in Man the Guns. The AI has a 1 in 3 chance of allowing Edward to marry if Churchill is PM and a 1 in 6 chance otherwise.
- With Edward VIII reigning, a republican civil war can ensue.
- With Edward VIII reigning, Britain can pursue rapproachement with radnat France, and if it does, radnat France can invite it to fold the UN into the Pacte de Fer.
- After completing a certain focus, Britain can now aid countries fighting off a socialist revolution.
- After completing the same focus and getting out of the Great Depression, Britain can now invite countries in the same ideology group that are also out of the Great Depression to join its faction.
- The British colonies in West Africa and East Africa have been renamed to West Africa and East Africa respectively; Senegal, Kenya, Nigeria, and others should be releasable later, depending on path, but aren't yet implemented.
- The generic war bonds decision now increases economy strength (for Great Depression purposes).
- If the AWR liberalizes into the MWR, it can now attempt to join the CSA instead of the USA.
- If the MWR is turned down by both the CSA and the USA (being at war also counts as being turned down), or is turned down by one while the other is unable to help it, it can be couped by vanguardists or social nationalists.
- If the MWR has the agricultural crisis, is not a subject, and has less army strength than the USA, it will submit to US demands for annexation.
- Conservative France will attempt to reclaim its lost territory, just like it would in its other paths.
- Partisans work a little more like they should.

Permanent Revolution Update

I don't know if this counts as part of Guns of the Patriots nor whether Guns of the Patriots is finished yet. I needed a break from structured updates to just focus on things that really needed updating. I believe I'm going to do similar mini-updates soon for Austria, France, and possibly the UK before moving over to CSA/Brazil as planned.

- Palatinate starts as a puppet of Bavaria rather than simply an exclave.
- Russia's focus tree is tweaked to be more likely to launch invasions as Beria or Trotsky and to have options to puppet a few likely targets.
- The International Revolution decisions no longer include Overthrow Bourgeois Dictatorship, which has been made redundant by Russia's new focuses.
- The Great Game decision category is removed.
- AI will now take states in peace deals instead of puppeting or liberating, just like in Kaiserreich. I'm in the process of adding decisions to release puppets that make sense.
- Countries can return the core states of factionmates, subjects, and overlords. The AI will do so without hesitation.
- Russia will release the Finnish, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Manchu, Mongol, Tajik, Turkmen, and Uzbek SSRs after defeating the White Entente. Russia can also release the Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Moldavian, and Persian SSRs if it annexes the appropriate territory.
- Socialist countries can now donate arms and manpower to the socialist sides in civil wars, similar to the support decisions in Kaiserreich. In the future, this will also be available for non-socialist countries.
- There is now a rudimentary system for demarcating which countries are part of the USSR. It comes with an idea and a tech-sharing group.
- "National socialism" has been revived as an ideological tendency to describe Doriot's views. In SR's world, Doriot is the progenitor of national socialism, but it still has more or less the same beliefs attached to it.
- Doriot has his own portrait instead of the generic communist one he was mistakenly assigned.
- Some ideological tendency writeups have been rewritten slightly to be more setting-specific.
- Japan can invade the USSR now. The USSR needed something to sweat over.

BBA Update

I believe there's no new content in this update; there may be a tiny bit that didn't make it into the previous update. Other than a few miscellaneous bug fixes, all this update is intended to do is to make the mod work with game version 1.12.*. The BBA content isn't in any way incorporated; in fact, I don't even have BBA yet because I can't afford a $20 DLC right now. I had to mangle OOBs and starting technologies in the name of compatibility, but it won't make a huge difference because the 1934 start already got rid of most of those technologies. Future updates will bring in the other features of 1.12.* and restore the missing aircraft.

Guns of the Patriots Preview 8

- Continued work on USA focus tree.
- Rebalanced decisions and missions related to the Great Depression and partisans.
- Updated several focuses and ideas that had continued to treat doctrines as technologies after the NSB update.
- Adjusted starting party popularity for Britain.
- Adjusted majority religions for Romania and Bulgaria.
- Added some missing localizations.

Guns of the Patriots Preview 7

- Several bugs and imbalances in the partisan system have been corrected.
- The AI is much more proactive about solving the Great Depression / Agricultural Crisis.
- The USA and AWR focus trees have been updated. This is a minor update for the AWR (added the beginnings of a sub-tree for a return to capitalism) and a major update for the USA (almost everything after the Incoming Executive focus is changed, the opening sub-tree is expanded, and every other sub-tree has been tweaked). Both countries have exciting new cosmetic options accessible by going with one of the three "centrist" ideologies (progressivism/liberalism/conservatism).
- Characters for USA, AWR, CSA, and Brazil have been updated.
- Placeholder trees for Austria and Brazil have been updated.

Guns of the Patriots Preview 6

- Greatly expanded the partisan system and gave socialist countries the ability to supply arms to friendly partisans in other countries.
- Made the Great Depression interactive and altered focuses in the CSA and generic focus trees to work with it.
- Added advisors for CSA.
- Gave party names to Sweden and Norway.
- Made a few minor cosmetic changes.
