Ever since the introduction of the R8 revolver over a year ago I have thought a wooden grip would look fantastic on the gun. It would give it that classic colt python look to the gun which I have loved for a long time and had seen Rick Grimes use in AMC's The Walking Dead. Since I started with the distressed collection a month ago I have been thinking which weapons are a good fit and then it hit me, the R8 Revolver will be a great candidate to make this skin for. The skin is made with a mil-spec/restricted rarity in mind hence the reason it uses rather dull colours. Also apologies for the terrible gameplay video. I am not really good at using the R8 as you can see :p


If I have to name one gun that is less used than the M249 it is the R8 Revolver. I never encounter the weapon in-game and it seems like everyone forgets it exists. The geometry and looks of the weapon are amazing, sadly enough the cockback of roughly 1 second is the biggest reason no one uses the gun. This did not refrain me from making a skin for it though and when I only replaced the black plastic with the base wooden texture it already looked super cool and exactly how I imagined it would. I then applied my distressed metal on the geometry and piece by piece it started to look like a cool skin.

The rust was something I was not really sure about. I could use the style of rust I used on the CZ-75 or the rust material I used on my corroden skins applied in a different way. I quickly decided to go for the old rust material with a different way of application and I was very happy with the end result. I did not want the rust to be super noticeable but more like a thing you'd notice once you focus on the skin. After applying the rust I added details such as scratches, the grip and details to the wood so the gun looked like it was worn and that brings me to the wear.


The wear on the R8 is nothing special. If the weapon wears it will turn darker and more rust like spots become visible. The maximum wear is 0.80 because at 1.00 I felt it was too dark and the rust like spots became too stark.


With only 2 distressed skins I can say this is definitely the best one. It feels so right because of the geometry of the gun. I sure would love to use this skin in-game and I really hope that you do too. I know I know, the R8 Revolver is not a gun that a lot of people use but that does not mean it does not deserve good looking skins.
