Description
ATTENTION! I am no longer able to maintain or update my mods going into Patch 2.0. My PC has crashed and I don't know when I will be able to replace the broken parts. Furthermore, my personal life is in the middle of an important crossroads and I'm going to be focusing on reality. This means NONE of my mods will be updated further. They will remain as they are for Patch 1.9.

DISCLAIMER: If anyone wishes to maintain/update/continue this mod, they have my permission to do so with the understanding that credit must be given in the description of your updated mod to the original author. Always give credit where credit is due. Also, my next goal before having to stop was to streamline this mod down from 12 cultures to 1 by carefully making sure the tinting system worked with these shipsets. If anyone wants to attempt that, you have my blessing.

Original description follows:

The Dark Avian Shipset mod adds 12 new, dark Avian ship appearance types to the game, each equipped with appropriately color coordinated engines, lights, and forcefields. These new ship appearances will only be useable by the player. The only way to get the AI to use them is to create a custom empire with one of these 12 ship appearance types selected and adding said empire into your new game via the Phoenix looking symbol next to that empire in the empire creation screen. The 12 colors available with this mod are seen in the image right above this paragraph.

NOTE: This mod is only meant to introduce a new graphical culture for shipsets and citysets. This means that it will create a new portrait tab that will be blank. There is nothing I can do about this without removing the culture entirely (which includes the shipset and cityset). If I ever find a way to remove the portrait tabs I will, but these are NOT glitches.

This mod is an updated version of Alastor's Dark Avian Shipsets. His original mod has set idle for so long that I decided to reupload the mod here instead of seeing his hard work go to waste. Full credit & Authorship of this mod goes to Alastor for his hard work in forming these ship appearance types. Alastor returned here and gave me his blessing for the continuation of my version of the mod. [This can be verified in the comments section.] I still give full credit and authorship of this one to Alastor.

While it's technically not a required mod, it is very highly recommended that you use Antharis' Stellar Trails Disabler mod in conjuction with this mod. The Disabler mod removes the blue "streak" behind ships whenever they move. This looks particularly strange behind all but the blue-based Dark Avian variations, and thus the need for the mod.

Stellar Trails Disabler mod also works with the latest patch. Ignore outdated version warnings!

Or you can use Clean Space - No Exhaust Trails by ButtJunkie if you want the same thing that doesn't throw warnings.

This Dark Avian Shipsets (Advanced) mod is part of a series of dark hull based ship mods in a collection called "Dark Species Shipsets". This collection adds shipsets with a dark hull and 12 color choices to all 7 main species for your enjoyment. You can visit the Dark Species Collection link at the top of this description to be able to subscribe to all the mods together, or you can look through this listing below and mix and match as you like. Other than Dark Avian here you have:

As I said in the disclaimer above, my purpose with this updated Dark Avian mod is to provide updated and maintained compatibility for Alastor's original work. With this in mind, I have not only updated compatibility, I have increased it. Below is a listing of all mods that this Dark Avian mod currently has support for:

NOTICE: All the mods supported here may not be compatible with each other, please check each mod page before using them together.

  • A very special thank you to Alastor: for creating this mod, and very kindly giving his blessing for this version of the mod, which I hope is a tribute to his excellent work.
  • Special thank you to NHunter: for giving me the template I needed to make the citysets for this particular mod, as I couldn't separate the vanilla colors myself.
  • Special thank you to Borei: for helping finish my education on what I needed to make this mod work, and for patiently helping me solve some strange phantom bugs I was having developing it.
  • Thank you to CaptainX3: for assisting me with setting up this modpage and helping design some of the "special" mod images you see throughout this modpage.
  • Thank you to Antharis: for helping settle any worries about competing over a purple Avian shipset, and giving me permission to use some of his work as a starting point for my Violet colored variant

This mod needs to be resurrected by someone else.

That's sad to hear, CV. Game won't be the same without my dark red avian ships menacing the galaxy. Good luck with your personal life and here's to a speedy return (if possible).

missed, but never forgotten. I hope things go well for you! :D

@Anthoux - No. My PC has crashed and I will need time to purchase replacement parts, and even then, my personal life is now at a critical crossroads, so my attention is on reality. Patch 2.0 is as good a place to stop anyway, as the patch basically rewrites the game.

I will be putting a "disclaimer" in the description, giving permission for anyeone to use my work as long as due credit is given, so hopefully someone else can carry on the work in my absense, but I'm afraid my Stellaris modding days may have come to a crashing hault.

are you planing on updating when 2.0 comes out?
Crusader Vanguard  [author] Feb 10, 2018 @ 1:19pm
@Anthoux - I’m afraid so. They create new species and graphical cultures in the game so they are all different and don’t override the vanilla ship set. That means the checksum changes and no achievements.
Anthoux Feb 7, 2018 @ 12:05pm
Do these ship mods disable achievements?

@Crusader Vanguard,
Of course. I understand how taxing and time consuming such a large project can be more so for a game you no longer play. Regardless I am greatful for your work and hope all is well for you development wise and personally.

@Lord Sarran - Thank you. I try my best. :steamhappy:

As for your "obnoxious" request, "not right now" is probably the best responce. Right now I'm working on the overhaul of these mods so they are down to just one culture instead of 12, and I've only done Mammalian and 90% of Avian. After that, I'll probably be taking a break between now and Patch 1.9. It's been a very long time since I've actually played Stellaris.

@Crusader Vanguard,
Also I am sure you get countless obnoxious request but if it would not be too much work to create could you make a Purple Avian Shipset themed after Covenant Ships from Halo? I know the Covanent Ship Set is available even with NSC but it would just give me that personal kick to immerse myself with Covenant diversity.

Just another obnoxious request: ignore to your hearts desire lol.
