(-New Ship Classes & More: Streamlined-)

This mod is the official "light" version of New Ship Classes & More. This version is for those who are looking for only the new ship and station classes and their associated techs and components, without the extra features offered by the original NSC. If you'd like the extra features, subscibe to the full version of NSC here:

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE COMPLETELY. We will not be addressing questions that are already answered on this page.

  • DO NOT run this mod and the main NSC mod together. It will not work.

  • DO NOT run this mod on a save game that had the main NSC mod activated. You will very likely encounter major problems.

  • There will be no new features added to this mod that are not directly ship or station related. However, any changes to the ships/stations in NSC or introduction of new ships/stations will be copied to this mod.

  • Requests for changes to this version will be ignored. Take it as it is, or use the full version of NSC.

  • Almost all of the NSC Addon mods should work with this version, except any that are specifically made for the features not included.

  • Almost all of the NSC Compatibility Patches should work with this version, except any that are specifically made for the features not included.

At this time, both versions of NSC are NOT compatible with the Combat Balancing - Naked Corvette Prevention mod by Doomwarrior. We are working with the author on creating a compatibility patch for the two mods, but this will take some time. DO NOT use both NSC and Combat Balancing together - they will not work and you'll have issues.

July 21, 2017 - Update 1.1.0 - Oragnization, Choice, Compatibility Overhaul
  • NOTE: The full list of changes is too long to fit on this page. See the full Change Log for details.
  • Added NSC Features Menu.
  • NSC Ship Parts Feature.
  • NSC is now much more save game friendly, allowing you to have all features of NSC up and running mid-game, however, we strongly recommend you do this near the end of a year, as this "need to update" is checked yearly.
  • Tweaked AI Ship Budgets
  • Changed Superdreadnought to have 4 XL weapons.
  • Added "XL Weaponry Upgrades" for Capital Ships.
  • Returned vanilla Mining/Research Stations to their weaponless state due to horrid targeting coding causing battle issues. Armed ones available in new Addon mod.
  • Increased the base Corvette price from 30 to 60 to bring it in line with other classes and hopefully reduce Corvette spam. To compensate at the start, NSC offers you 8 starting corvettes instead of the original 3.
  • Reduced the speed of the NSC Flagship slightly.
  • Utilized the fourth technology tier to make Flagship and Headquarters Station as "rare and unique" as they should be.
  • Added additional coding required to make NSC compatible with The Zenith of Fallen Empires mod. The Ship Compatibility Patch is still required.
  • Numerous random bugfixes and improvement tweaks, including removing the last of the vanilla localisation file overwrites.
NOTE: The localisation files have been changed in this update. Language translations will need to be updated to include the changes.

By popular depand, NSC Streamlined has been "hotfixed" to run with, but NOT supported by Patch 1.8. Therefore, HEED THESE WARNINGS:

1. NSC 7.0 will come out between this Friday and this coming Wednesday at the latest and will break ANY saved games.

2. NSC now will run with Patch 1.8, but all statistics for everything are the same and because of this there will be minor bugs here and there.

3. NSC Main and Playable Guardians are also updated, same warnings. Compatibility Patches will take longer.

Ah crap. LOL. I revert NSC back but not Streamlined. I can do that if you guys want me to. I have no idea when NSC 7.0 will be released, it could be tomorrow it could be this weekend it could be when CaptainX3 has his next home time.

This version works on 1.8 without crashing so it wasnt reverted to 1.6.2

So I see the streamlined version has been updated, is this actually updated or is it like the full version and it has been reverted to the 1.6.2 version? Was hoping the streamlined version would get the full update treatment first since it has alot less fiddly bits.

I have a small request about these mods... Would it be possible to return most of the loading screen art to its Vanilla defalt? Some pages, like the one that shows each ship class with the name is helpful, but ive found myself and my friends missing the epic artwork. I am probably in the minority on this but hey, no harm trying right? Great mod overall tho! Keep it up

@Zero - Your points are being considered and implimented... to a point, at least what we can without royally screwing up balance. LOL. "Real Balance" in this game is completely and utterly impossible. So you make sure that it's balanced enough to support "fun" and just go with "fun".

If you want to remove some of the "last designs" for certain ship classes to remove "clutter" from your ship designer, there is a "trick" work-around. You create a new design in a ship class you want to keep, make sure you can save it, and name it EXACTLY the same as the "last design" you want to delete. It should delete that "last design" and you can simply remove the one you just created.

@Crusader Fair point ... balance is always a hard thing to get right. Especially in a game where a wining strat is to spam the cheapest unit and profit.
I'm sticking with this mod, wile the other mods are also cool, I like the improvements besides the new ship hulls that the mod adds. From smaller things like the ship design UI improvements to the Flagship the all add a bit of awesomeness.
Its not a major pain point to deal with all the ship classes, to some extent I can just ignore and play around them. I just wanted to share some insight and feedback into a thing that bugged me, especially being that this mod is so cool. Looking forward to the merger and to a even more streamlined mod :)

@Zero - CaptainX3 and I have had this discussion before, many times. You points have a lot of merit, and some of the ship classes (2 in particular) are targets for "merging" into an existing class, with the Frigate already being worked into the Destroyer for the next major NSC update (probably around the release of Patch 1.8).

The issue is mainly balance. The #1 thing we want to avoid is one ship class conquers all (outside of the Flagship), so that there is variety. Each ship class does serve a particular role/function, with the Frigate/Superdreadnought being the hardest to "justify". The Strike Cruiser could be "merged" with the Cruiser, but that risks long range capabilities too and balance issues. The Battlecruiser could be merged with the Light Carrier, but long range weaponry + Hangers = balance issues. It's a tricky act.

If you want a mod that has fewer ship classes, I would recommend Realistic Ships or Ship Classes Extended.
