American Exploration Systems is a private spacecraft manufacturer and exploration firm that was founded in the year 2070. Unlike Manly Tree Dynamics, which sells its craft to other entities for their own private use, AES operates in its own interests and uses produces ships and stations only for its own purposes.

During its earlier days, AES' ambitious exploration efforts led to fierce competition, territorial disputes, and tension between American Exploration and the organizations and corporations it encountered. In 2081, one of these tense situations was pushed over the edge by a collision between an AES defense cruiser and a cargo vessel owned by the Voidseer Federation. Combat broke out, and news of the incident spread and turned all other uneasy feelings between AES and other parties into hostility. As a result, American Exploration was forced to divert much of its funding and resources to military designs, and now, regrettably, operates primarily as an organization of war.
