About Me

I’ve been working on making my own Dota items for the last year, building items for Venge and Razor, using them as a way of learning how to apply my previous skills from an animation studio to Dota. I love Lina’s elegant fashion style and I drew up a few concepts for her, finally deciding on this one to make as a complete set. It’s taken me around 7 months to make, a lot of that spent learning the workflow and wrestling with my perfectionism >.>

Core ideas
  • Design that is visible from a distance – My first priority for a set is how it appears in the game from the normal player perspective. I wanted the details to be clear from the player's gameplay angle, rather than a fancier and more complicated concept which would be too noisy to appreciate from far away. This is why I chose to use simple patterns and light amounts of green in the form of gemstones, to catch the eye and provide some contrast to her red and yellow.
  • Alternate head item – I made a second head item as an alternate style, one which shows more of her hair.
  • Design that scales to lower graphics options – I want to make a design that looks crisp and detailed to everyone who plays Dota, even for people who don’t can’t play on high settings
  • Elegant, classy style – I wanted a design that looks respectable yet still fashionable.
  • Inspirations – The hat design was inspired by pirate themed clothes. The skirt is designed to be a mixture of a flowery shape and a candle flame, which can be seen from above. I tried to get the green on all her clothes to line up with each other when seen from front, back and above to make the items complement each other.
