Description
Shoutout to Ferpe (@IFerPe01 on Twitter)[x.com] for the awesome thumbnail art! They do commissions!!!

* WHAT'S UP WITH THE ASTERISK???

* This was intended to be another full-package mod like my previous project, but due to a combination of Isaac burnout + newfound employment, I don't foresee myself finishing this one. Nevertheless, I couldn't just keep it all to myself!

* Additionally, not all of the mechanics/RNG get reverted by Glowing Hourglass, which I'm displeased with. I tried banging my head against the wall a few times to fix this, but it didn't really work out.

* While development of this mod will be indefinitely on hold, I'll still work on any other bug fixes if need be.

* So what features are missing?:
  • Tainted Lydia
  • 1 challenge
  • 2 collectibles
  • 1 familiar
  • 1 card
  • Unlock conditions for new content
  • API for adding custom Gems/Sockets
  • Fiend Folio compatibility
  • Unique Items Port Pack compatibility
  • Metal Spoon costume
  • Alternate Wavy Chip costumes (Keeper, ???, etc.)

* All of that being said, there's still a handful of smaller odds & ends that I'd like to make, so you may see a couple more uploads from me in the future.

OTHER LYDIA MODS:
- Just Lydia
- Lydia Items
- Card Recyclers

RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH THESE MODS:
- Completion Marks for ALL Modded Chars! or Repentogon
- External Item Descriptions or Encyclopedia
- MinimAPI

CHARACTER:

What if you could buy Secret Room items from Shops? Or get Angel items from beating bosses? A Library full of Devil items, perhaps? Or maybe, if you're extra lucky, Planetarium items straight from the Treasure Room! These and more can be yours when you play as Lydia, the character who replaces item pools!

To replace item pools, Lydia uses two new types of card-slot consumables that are exclusive to her: Gems and Sockets! There's a Gem for every item pool in the game, and there's also a Socket for every item pool. Essentially, a Gem represents "giving" an item pool out and a Socket represents another item pool "taking" it in. Use one followed by the other to make the switch!

(For example, if you wanted Angel items to appear in Treasure Rooms, you would use an Angel Gem to "give" that pool out, followed by a Treasure Socket to make that pool "take" it in.)

Gems and Sockets appear from all sorts of places throughout a run. Killing enemies, taking damage, beating bosses, buying items, performing Devil deals, and many more actions can yield a Gem or Socket. Wanna get cool items from Beggars? Give them some money, or blow them up, to see if you get a Beggar Socket! Or try to get the Guppy transformation, by opening loads of Red Chests to look for a Red Gem!

Notably, using a Gem/Socket makes it more likely for the opposite type of consumable to appear until a pool is successfully changed. Use this to your advantage, and you can make all sorts of combinations!

In case you lose track, you can hold down the map button to see a pair of cycling icons above Lydia's head, showing the replacements that have been made so far. Gems on the left, Sockets on the right.

Lydia also starts with the Pay to Win trinket + an absorbed copy of Silver Dollar, to keep the fun going!

For more comprehensive info about her mechanics, check out the Encyclopedia entries!

ITEMS:

Along with Lydia herself, this mod comes with some new collectibles, trinkets, and consumables to spice things up! You can watch the showcase video to see what they do, or check out the Encyclopedia entries for more info.

MACHINE:

Lastly, this mod adds a new type of machine called a Card Recycler! Occasionally found in place of the Donation Machine in Shops (or rarely, in Treasure Rooms), they allow you to swap your held card for another random one at the cost of 3 cents. Think of it almost like rooting through cards with Restock + Steam Sale!

They can also recycle a rune, but you'll break the machine in the process!

Like other machines, they have a small chance to explode on use. They can either drop a few pickups, or a card-themed pedestal item:
  • Booster Pack (common, 50% chance)
  • Deck of Cards (common, 35% chance)
  • Starter Deck (rare, 10% chance)
  • Tarot Cloth (very rare, 5% chance)

COMPATIBLE WITH THESE MODS:
- External Item Descriptions
- Mod Config Menu Pure
- Encyclopedia
- MinimAPI
- Birthcake: Rebaked
- Sewing Machine
- Time Machine PLUS (YMH UPDATE) [REP+]
- TimeMachine[Repentance]
- Faster Animations
- Alt Path + Mother in Greed Mode

Wasn't expecting you to return with another awesome character mod @heehoo! I hope you add more content and finish Lydia in the future. But even if you don't, it's still perfect for me even in its current state. Take as long of a break from Isaac outside of bug fixing the mod you want to, and good luck with your new job!

@shuey3686 Thanks for the report, I'll look into it!

@dorthedoor Are you able to check for any error messages in the debug console? It could be that an error is causing the scripts to stop before it can do pool change stuff.

@Ozzie Did you notice any other error messages in the debug console? Mod stuff tends to stop working if an issue happens elsewhere, so perhaps it failed to initialize due to a prior error.

If that's the only message (or if you happen to be running Repentogon or Mod Error Container), then we could rule that out.

Aside from that, is it something that consistently happens across runs? Or did it happen once?

Hello! I'm having an issue with this on my console. I don't know what's wrong with it, I just want to report it:

I love the mod. Just an idea don’t want to impede on your hard work. Birthwright making it where you can stack gems for item pools or being able to change them out and the old gem “popping out”/ dropping on the floor. A tainted version could be mixed gems or mixed sockets. Shop Socket with an angel/devil pool gem. The unlock for it could be that you have to mix up all item pools and then boom you unlocked the tainted version. If you have a patreon, I would love to support further mod creation. This is a well rounded character.

the pool changes dont work any reason why?
