瑞鹤图Auspicious Cranes Bringing Blessings/(1112 AD)

This is a painting created in 1112 AD by an emperor of China"s Song Dynasty, whose title roughly translates to "Auspicious Cranes Bringing Blessings." The emperor excitedly inscribed beside the work: "Beautiful white cranes soar and circle in the sky, dancing gracefully while emitting resonant and melodious calls. People gathered below, marveling at the sight, yet the cranes lingered for a long time, reluctant to depart. I am overjoyed to witness such splendor and shall preserve this scene through painting for future generations to admire." As you can see, this artwork has traversed time, arriving before your eyes 912 years later. 政和壬辰上元之次夕，忽有祥云拂郁低映端门，众皆仰而视之。倏有群鹤飞鸣于空中，仍有二鹤对止于鸱尾之端，颇甚奇异。经时不散，迤逦盘旋，自近垓远复还于阊阖之上，往来经度，度复如初。或回旋于太清，或翩跹于下际，掩映浮光流瓦，羽翮之彩色，焕烂陆离，不可胜状。观者数万人，皆叹诧久之。至二鼓方渐散去，犹有百余两未止。朕高凭宸槛，亲睹嘉祥，万宇同欢，实为希遇之庆。不惟目击，并且图形，永作天历之宝鉴云尔。
