Cluster Mines - w4stedspace

Description
The world to accompany the attached video from my YouTube channel.

A cluster-mine concept with multiple seeking warheads in both large and small varients. The small varient also includes a launcher vessel.

For more information about how it works please watch the video above.

These are really cool! Nice work

@Deus ex Machina Yeah could work nicely tbh, although is starting to get fairly complex like that given there's lots of them also.. would hate to think of trying it in surival lol :)

That's cool. Another thought I had was use a small thruster with a timer block, and some heavy armor backplates on your small ship to boost against at launch. Set it up to detach --> short thrust --> activate sensors?

@Deus ex Machina so far I've not included mods in any of my designs because it opens up such a massive range of extra options I wanted to try and keep vanilla until I ran out of ideas that worked.. at that point I'll start looking at mods more and will defo check out that grav drive, sounds interesting.

Have you considered using the jetbike mod grav engines with the timer to push the mines away from the ship prior to arming? The grav drive is a 1x1x1 on small ships, and it seems that it would give you the clearance you need to boost clear of the lock-on range. It would also make using the merge block a more feasible option.

@Shadow_Wolf help yourself! I'd be very interested to see what you come up with from it :) Sounds like you had some similar issues to me along the way, good to hear I'm not alone.. some shared pain heh!

I'm still searching for a mod to replace merge blocks with something more stable/reliable, first time I've really considered looking for a mod to solve a problem at all so far.

(part 2)
But... Things didn't went well, most of the times it backfired and the torpedo hit the craft itself, i've also made several modifications to it(but i forgot to save the modified model...) which only slightly reduced the time in which the torpedo would make a turn and hit the craft right after being lauched.... And when that wasn't the problem, there was another even more frequent problem in which the merger would fail when the craft was manuevering at speeds of 60m/s or more, making the torpedo fly away...
So gave up on it...at least for now, but your design seems to be working, mind if i brake it down and try to make one of my own using your idea?

(Part 1)
I know very well how you felt at the first part of the video, i had the same problem with the ones i made, however, mines were torpedores, they had a very simple system, it was just 9 warheads at the front, a reactor, an antena(for tests only), and 3 back thrusters that propelled it foward and 2 sensors, 1 to turn on the thrusters and the other to trigger the explosion, they were launched from a modified small fighter that i made, it originally used 7 rocket launchers to attack large ships, and it was also a very light and fast spacecraft, which made it look perfect for this task.

Nice. These are like combat wasps (especially the defensive ones) from the Night's Dawn Trilogy
