Jumbo Floating Restaurant
Another Lost Gem of Hong Kong

珍寶海鮮舫
與香港同沉沒

Introduction
Jumbo Kingdom
The Jumbo Floating Restaurant once existed on the typhoon shelter in Aberdeen, Hong Kong. It is one of the two floating restaurant that forms the Jumbo Kingdom[en.wikipedia.org] Floating restaurant cluster, the other restaurant being the adjacent Tai Pak Floating Restaurant. Compared to Tai Pak, Jumbo was the larger and more well known one. The Jumbo Kingdom have operated for over 40 years. It has become a famous tourist attraction, over 30 million visitors visited Jumbo Kingdom, including Queen Elizabeth II and Tom Cruise.

The Present Day
The restaurants stopped doing business during the pandemic, and according to Jumbo's parent company, the floating restaurants had been unprofitable since 2013 and had accumulated losses more than 100 million HKD. The future of Jumbo was being considered, and plans were proposed to reactivate the business. Plans included donating it to the nereby Ocean Park amusement park, converting it to a museum, or relocating it to land, but none of them have been successful. It was later reported that Ocean Park had refused to take in Jumbo, and the government would not invest taxpayer money or offer subsidies either, saying it's "not good at running such premises".

The Death of Jumbo
In mid 2022, the restaurant's parent company announced that the barge would be leaving Hong Kong, so it was eventually towed out of the harbor and its destination was some unknown shipyard in Cambodia. Four days after being towed in the South China Sea, the company announced that due to "bad weather", the floating restaurant had fully capsized in the sea. The company has denied allegations of foul play.

The truth may never be known, as there's numbers of questionable points, including the fact that the government issued permission despite being aware of the risk, how the company hasn't disclosed the exact destination of the vessel, and that a semi-submersible ship would be a safer option for transporting the barge.

This is just similar to many other vital aspects of the city that are being brutally murdered at the moment, and we are unable to stop it, not to even talk about politics. And that concludes Hong Kong's entire culture conservation ecology, which people are fatigued of. Perhaps modders from Cities: Skylines had accomplished more than the entire Hong Kong government combined.

My Story
For me, I had never boarded the barge, nor had I taken any pictures of the floating restaurant (that I deeply regret). I remembered that time when I was walking over the bridge that span across the waters of Aberdeen, in sight was the Jumbo Floating Restaurant, which I hadn't even bothered to pay attention to. Like many, "That ship isn't going to disappear any time soon" was all I was thinking. And that was the last time I ever got to see the floating restaurant with my own eyes.

I've started making this asset more than two years ago, of course I'm not working on it full time, but that's still a lot of work. Giving the announcement of Cities: Skylines II, I even doubt that we would ever see the final product in the first game and on the workshop. Now, mainly because of the states of CS2, some of us still haven't moved on to the new game, and I've got more time and reason to continue working on it.

Since I haven't got any photos of the restaurant myself, many textures for example those wall decorations, are hand drawn combined with stock elements, which I created according to the images online. The scale of the structure was close but not exactly correct, the only information I've got was photo scans from Google Maps and a few other websites. Like when I realized that the top part was too wide, it was already too late.

In addition, I have only created four of the five barges that make up the restaurant in real life. The fisheries barge, which keeps the seafood before cooking it, was absent. However, I believe this was fair given the amount of work and the size of the files.

Description
This asset pack contain 4 barges of the Jumbo Floating Restaurant, the main restaurant, the kitchen, the waste water treatment barge with the "Welcome" sign on the left, and the floating platform that connects Jumbo and Tai Pak, with also a welcome sign on the right.

They are decorational buildings without any functions, as tourist are unable to assess the buildings without any road connection. They can be placed on water and on land as well, they won't have the floating effect as it would be odd for such a large structure. Height might need to be adjusted slightly by using the Move It mod when placing on water.

-File size will decrease when using the Loading Screen Mod.

-Use the Repaint mod to change the color of the main barge's roof.

-Also subscribe to the Visibility Control mod to enable additive shader for the all the light bulbs and neon sign.

Thanks for your exquisite work. The Jumble Restaurant reminded me of a similar project once existed in my hometown Dalian, where they refurbished the retired cruise ship Arianna into a museum-restaurant-shopping center. It was overturned by typhoon in 2005
