True (Hair) Colors

Description
Hello everyone,

With this mod, I have adjusted the color selections for hair and facial hair.

To a large degree, I felt that the game's selection was underwhelming; several options appeared unnatural, and the remnant did not constitute a wide-enough array of those that could be found in life.

The Changes
My solution can be seen in the images above. For color groups, I opted primarily to scale their vibrancy up or down to create lighter or darker shades. I followed the base game's pattern up until black because I wanted NPCs and player characters to have similar color to those which pre-existed. However, I decided beyond that to restructure the pattern and to completely change colors, as I don't believe any NPCs use a color located after black.

The pattern can be described as:

* Colors 1 - 4: White to Blonde
* Colors 5 - 7: Red to Red-Brown
* Colors 8 - 10: Red-Brown to Dark Brown
* Color 11: Black
* Colors 12 - 14: Dark Grey to Light Grey
* Colors 15 - 18: Dirty Blonde to Brown

Some colors, such as #4 and #13, were from the base game and I either kept them in the same spot or relocated them in the sequence.

I kept the total number of colors at 18, however there are still two slots available before I'd have to edit the character customization window, so if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.

Q + A
* What happens to existing characters when I enable this mod?
- Their hair color will reflect the new selection, depending on whatever ID number they have selected. If the mod is disabled, they will return to their old color. I believe colors applied via an RGB selector mod will stay the same.

* Is this mod compatible with others?
- It should be compatible with just about every mod other than those which also change hair color. In those cases, the mod load order can be changed to adjust which colors are enabled. When in doubt, placing this mod near the bottom of the load order should help.

* Why is it that the same color can look slightly different with different hairstyles?
- Each hairstyle uses a material file which calibrates certain values such as roughness and specularity. These values, among others, can slightly affect color, especially at certain angles. The hair and facial hair from Siptah also have a slight tinge of color by default, which is a problem to solve in another mod.

* Why didn't you add [insert color name here] to the selection??!??
- I wanted to stick to colors that at the very least look natural. However, it's possible some may have slipped my mind and as a result have been omitted from the mod. If you can make a decent case as to why it should be added, I'll consider doing so.

Wrap-up
Feedback, suggestions, criticism, and so on are appreciated, but remember that I'm under no obligation to act upon them (unless something's broken of course).

I hope you all enjoy, and thank you.

Hello everyone,

In between some of my other projects, I have been working on an update for this mod, involving some color adjustments. In particular, I wanted to include a wider variety of colors within each group (more distinct blondes, reds, etc.) rather than the light / dark gradation that defines this version.

However, the differences between the two versions are pronounced enough that I'm considering releasing the new version as its own mod and keeping this one as it is. This mod was made primarily for people who don't want to have to fiddle with a color wheel from another mod, and I don't want to pull the rug out from under people if they don't like the new color they'd inherit.

I'll make sure to announce the new mod when it is released.

Thanks for reading,

Dread Swoop

As of today's bugfixing update for the game, this mod is still functioning as intended on my end.

@onuryalcn18 No, the skill required for hair modelling is beyond me.

There are a couple mods I could recommend regarding new hairstyles, however. The first, Barbarian Barber, is pretty popular and has well over 100 styles to choose from, I think. A couple of them need to be fixed, but on the whole they're decent:

Simple Hairstyles is another, it offers much fewer hairstyles in comparison to Barbarian Barber, but they're much closer to the aesthetic of the base game.

Do you also make new hair models?

Might try this out!

@Wade_Wilson I just checked the release version and it's working as intended on my end.

There may be a mod compatibility issue going on, I'm not sure if you're using cosmetic mods which also extend into hair color. Placing this mod lower in the load order may help overcome that issue.

Unsubscribing and resubscribing to the mod may help as well, provided there was an issue with Steam's delivery.

Don't notice anymore colors & does not seem to be working. Yes, they are selected in the Mods tab on the launcher.

Hello everyone,

I've been working on another Conan project recently and, given that I've been looking at many, many NPCs, I'm starting to feel as if some of the colors (specifically the reds) are a little too similar to each other, as I can't necessarily tell the difference in the field.

To address that, I may draw those colors apart, adjust the hues of some of them to give a bit more variety. The plan will be to update them in the coming days or weeks, but if people are satisfied with them as they are, I can keep the update for myself.

As always, feedback is welcome. Be well.

@chaospearl Oh okay, I may have misunderstood your initial question, but at least for the default selection of colors, there won't be the bright lashes.

I think it may be possible to effectively lock the eyelashes to black by editing their material file, I'll give it a try when I am able.

I'll give it a try then, thank you for the answer.

I typically use the custom RGB color picker when I want a light color like blond because the game's blond is a muddy straw color. Playing with color, saturation and brightness lets me have a pretty golden or a white blond or strawberry.

Problem is, using custom color causes the lashes to match the hair color exactly. It doesn't matter which color slot I start out with before opening the customizer; any custom color will have the lashes identical to the hair. It looks absolutely bizarre 90% of the time.
