Description

This mod adds several types of decorative elevation in the floors tab to make your colonies really stand above the rest. You can use these ledges, slopes and platforms on any heavy terrain and put pretty much anything on top of them.

There's also elevation shaders, which are a special floor covering that progressively fades and lightens any floor surface you put them on. I added these to make the terrain that defines your colony even more impressive. They don't cost anything to build or deconstruct.

Please note that this mod is decorative only. There's no distinct advantages to elevation in this mod, so an ice sheet colony on a snowy mountain peak is functionally the same as anywhere else. I didn't have the patience to write a bunch of generation code for elevated terrain features either, so said mountain peaks will have to be handcrafted by you, which is why you're downloading this mod. I hope you enjoy.

Should be safe to remove mid-save but it will give you a wall of red errors while your colony is suddenly flattened.

Special thanks to the creators behind Decorative Cliffs and Simple Stairs for much of the inspiration behind this mod, I think this mod works quite well with either, and to the fellow mod creators who had lots of helpful advice and feedback while I was working on it.

@teamson You can remove elevation by deconstructing it, I wanted to have a custom removal option for it but it's not something I'm working on right now.

@thesoupiest I did some testing with shadow casting but it didn't look right in most circumstances, in particular with multiple layers of terrain or hollow sections. If you think you can make it work please give it a try and let me know

Any way to make them cast shadows like buildings?

I didn't include it before because I felt like it was already blowing up my floors tab but I do see the value in it so I definitely can add that. The solid border edge is something I will probably adjust in another art pass so it might not be quite as bothersome in future. Wait and see :)

glad to ear! may I request inner corners for the platforms since it looks blunt when done like this [imgur.com]

Mod Update Incoming:
@DreamyBit Removed most of the terrain affordances for next update.

Changing the behaviour of most buildables so that they don't interfere as much with things like
hidden conduits or furniture;

Either lowering selection priority
Or just making them unselectable entirely

Still needs to be sense checked so it's not messing with construction workflow.

Thinking about texture edits to reduce overlapping but no changes yet.

Hello, May I suggest removing the heavy terrain requirement so that we can use platforms on water to build shoreline/canals? or setting up a config so it can be toggled

It would be great to have a height tile that darkens terrain or has a gradient for adding AO
