Large ring rotors with central tunnel

Description
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Before subscribing to this mod be sure to check out DX11-ready Two-ended Motors,
ShaoCorp Rotors and Rotor Variety first, as those offer similar functionality while being smaller and not having as many issues.

DESCRIPTION:
These very large rotors with a walkable 1x1 and 3x3 tunnel in the middle are primarily intended for ships and stations with rotating modules. Both 3x3 tunnel and compact versions also have 4 conveyor doors (2 on opposite ends of the stator + 2 on the sides of the ring) to facilitate cargo transfer among both fixed ends of the rotor and the ring itself.

Known issues:
  • Clicking "Detach" button in the Control Panel will break the rotor permanently with no way to re-attach the ring in-game,
  • It is possible to clip into rotor from outside in a couple of places, due to physics engine limitations,
  • The tunnel isn't airtight, again due to engine limitations. To pressurise the tunnel, surround the rotor with force fields,
  • Sometimes a ring will spawn off-centre. Placing any block on a ring appears to fix this,
  • Blocks cannot be built directly inside a tunnel (and due to the same reason, any attempt to use merge blocks in the tunnel will fail). The workaround is to build those blocks as a separate ship and then anchor them to the main vessel via landing gear,
  • The 3x3 tunnel rotors placed prior to 8 nov 2014 might break and need to be replaced,
  • The compact rotor doesn't have construction stages yet.

Edit 26 oct 2014: Added even bigger rotor with 3x3 tunnel.

Edit 4 nov 2014: (Very crude) Construction stages added.

Edit 8 nov 2014: After examining some pre-made models decided to retract my previous statement about cargo transfer being impossible and converted 3x3 tunnel version into an advanced ring rotor. The 1x1 tunnel version will remain a regular one for balance and realism reasons. Also increased maximum torque of both rotors to 300 MN*m (use at your own risk) and cleaned some misaligned textures.

Edit 2 mar 2015: Shamelessly stole SquallTemnov's concept[forum.keenswh.com]. Also added separate G-menu category.

Edit 30 may 2015: Fixed "black box" issue in DX11 mode.

Special thanks to:
  • Harag for his modding tools[forum.keenswh.com],
  • Keen Software House, for providing a convenient square of just the right size in the middle of the rotor model.

updating the texture/model would be great as far that i know its the only ring motor mod wich should be kept up to date

Still works...

Might be old, might be out of date but it still works. Will always be a favourite of mine.

if your still here, can you make a piston version?

I can confirm he absolutely will strike the moment you turn your back, I made a big ass rover with some fancy stuff, looked away for a moment, and I hear some horrible noise, I turn around again and half of my creation is gone, the other half is in the ground, in a large hole which I assume the missing half was sacrificed to make via impact.

@av.wright The rotors can do what you ask, they are just a big/huge version of the normal rotor, just watch out for Clang, it Likes to strike when you are not watching.

I want to use this rotor as the basis of a platform rotater and Im looking to solve a problem. Here's the scenario.
A platform is mounted on 4 pistons which are in turn mounted on top of this rotor. ships can land on the platform and connect to a connector for power and loading/unloading.
What I want to do is to be able to rotate the the platform and then have it connect to either a cargo pod or conveyor to unload whatever ship is on top of the platform. Is it possible to set up the rotor to do something like this?

No.
