Undead Honor

Description
I am on an indefinite hiatus from Project Zomboid. Feel free to use my code for future mods, and feel free to update my mods for B42. Please do not reuse their exact names or mod id's to avoid confusion and bugs for B41 players. I can only guarantee my mods worked when used alone before B42 dropped. I will no longer be retesting them when people have conflicts. Thanks for the support over the years.

Undead Honor makes zombies refrain from eating players who are still loading game assets until those players are actually ready to play. With this mod, players can load into the game safely without fear of dying before they can move.
  • This mod works in solo and multiplayer.
  • This mod can be added or removed safely at any time.

More Details for People Who Like Them

In vanilla Project Zomboid, no zombie has even the tiniest imaginable shred of honor. Zombies will eat you while your game is still loading even though you cannot see or do anything, and they will feel absolutely no shame. Then everything will become visible, and you will be dead, and they will step on your body until you reanimate or ragequit. I get it. Maybe zombies should have no honor. It's a vibe. But, for many people connecting to multiplayer servers and loading heavily modded solo games every day, it's a frequently frustrating and unfair vibe.

This mod makes zombies honorable. If zombies target you, they will immediately realize that you haven't yet moved or aimed, and they will therefore change their minds and refrain from attacking you until you start moving, aiming, attacking, or performing actions.
  • Options exist in the sandbox for determining how quickly zombies react after players begin moving or aiming.
  • Zombies will approach new players and may begin to lunge once, but should not actually deal damage if the player is not yet ready.
  • This mod does not require the host to disable any anti-cheat protection.
  • This mod does not set any cheat-associated states (such as God mode or invisibility) on the player; it only affects the behaviors of zombies that are either lunging at or visible to the player.
  • This mod will not heal the player or have any other odd unintended side effects to my knowledge.
  • Using Mod Options, players can enable an optional icon that indicates when zombies are waiting for the player to be ready. Mod Options is optional; it is not required for this mod to work. It's only necessary if players want access to the indicator option.
  • Players can enable both Undead Honor and Mod Options in the main menu of Project Zomboid before joining a server if they would like to enable the indicator icon in game options before spawning into a world.
  • This mod will still allow characters to die by other means if players quit and reload while they are on the verge of death, so don't expect it to protect them from everything.

This mod only protects players from zombies. It does not prevent other possible sources of damage, such as someone lighting your house on fire while you're not online. It just prevents zombies from attacking players until they take actions that could be a threat to zombies.

Please let me know if you have any feedback, requests, or issues, and feel free to try my other mods if you like this one!

For an even greater sense of security, consider running Advanced Death Log as well. It can allow you to easily restore a lot of your lost character data when you die.

Thanks to Brian J Bonislawsky of the Astigmatic One Eye Typographic Institute[www.1001fonts.com] for the great free font.

Shout-out to Stix for help with the icon!

Since y'all seem to enjoy not losing player data tragically, you might also enjoy my other latest mod, Advanced Death Log, which can not only track data related to player deaths but help restore lost skills, traits, and inventory. Additionally, Magic Chat will ensure that your players see server messages even if their chats are closed so that they won't lose data when servers restart, while also adding gamepad support to the chat interface!

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps the visibility of my mods by clicking thumbs up. I put a lot of effort into making bug-free mods that play nicely alongside hundreds of others, so it's nice to know they're being appreciated by everyone who might want them, and upvotes make that happen!

Thank you for your service. I'll probably create a 42 fork of this mod.

10/10 Description would read again... and will when I'm cranky. I use to accept the fact that's it's just part of their nature, but you persuaded me to see things your way. Zombies are kind of dishonorable little dicks. Man, if you ever start a cult I'm in.

Realizing it's Friday, so you'll have to wait until after the weekend for that update, but I know what could be done.

Ahhhh, so you become AFK again while driving, eh? I had not yet noticed that due to my driving time vs my AFK time. I will look into adding a way to detect vehicle-based movement.

this is not technically a bug so much as it is a pretty large oversight, but i'm guessing however you're detecting player non-movement doesn't account for being the driver of a moving vehicle, as it prevents zombies from detecting me in my 18 wheeler with a trailer barreling past them at 70 mph because my character "isn't moving". definitely something to be fixed, is it a possibility to detect AFK status by registering any keystrokes as activity instead of the actual character's movement?
