WD Austerity 2-8-0

In order to contribute their war efforts and find a cheaper and quicker way to produce steam locomotives, the War Department introduced the WD 2-8-0 Austerity (nicknamed Ozzies) as their standard heavy freight engines in 1943. Designed by Robert A. Riddles, these engines are largely based on the LMS 8Fs, but built with a parallel round-topped firebox made out of steel, instead of a tapered Belpaire ones made of rarer and more expensive copper.
After the war, many engines of this type were disposed within or out of the UK. 2 were retained by the WD. 200 were sold to the LNER later classed as O7, and 533 more were purchased by British Transport Commission. Later all 733 went into BR ownership. Other remaining Austerities were dispatched to other countries namely Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Netherland) which acquired 184 with two of them later sold to Statens Järnvägar (Sweden), one to US Army Transportation Corps in exchange for a USATC S160 Class, and 12 for Kowloon-Canton Railway (Hong Kong).

This model may well looks sophisticated since it’s came with an engine, a tender, hide/unhideable accessories and two different coupling systems, all based on how the engines of this type were modified and fitted when working in different railway operators and countries around the world. If you don’t understand how to modify, please follow the two bodygroup manuals as shown in screenshots above or drop your comments below if you have any questions.
