Description
Ever thought the Smoker trait was too OP? Yeah me too.

Part of the 42 update added coughing after performing the smoke action...which is nice and all, definitely an appreciated nerf, but the roll on that is sooo incredibly low. This mod adds another layer on top of that and punishes smokers even further by adding a persistent cough to anyone who picks the trait.

UPDATE: As of the 42.5 unstable update, this mod has now been made a part of the base game, albeit at a much lower rate than what this mod does. However, this mod is customisable whereas I believe the base game function is not. Feel free to unsubscribe

The cough is determined by a dice roll, and anything below the set threshold number will trigger a cough (the threshold is adjustable via sandbox settings). This dice roll happens at 10 minute intervals (in-game time).

Note: I wasn't the original creator of this mod. The original author is @STKed, I have no affiliation with them whatsoever. They took their mod down because...I dunno, reasons, and I reached out to them asking if I could effectively take the reins and they said yes, so I guess this is the new official version? Although I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to coding so don't expect many significant updates.

Huh, yeah okay. Neat. I think the animation thing you're noticing might be a conflict with the other mod? Cause when I run this without the other one, it plays an animation just fine.

For reference, seems to work :)
unsure how large the radius for 'cough cough' triggers zombies but that works too, though I don't seem to see an actual cough animation when it happens.

I have no idea. I assumed control of this mod way before that one became a thing, and I haven't even so much as looked at its code to see how it works. Feel free to try it out and get back to me with results.

umm will it work with True Smoking B41? It should right? maybe after it in load order? bit unsure because B42 and B41 version both not mention this mod in compatibility section

I mean it's not going anywhere. Technically it still serves a purpose if you want to make smoker even worse to deal with lmao. I'll keep it up in case people want to use it for whatever reason, but it'll likely never be updated or anything like that.

o7 thumbs up for your mod on the way out.

Hi there, I think you shouldn't give up so quickly. The new smoker trait doesn't just cough every 25 in-game minutes. The coughing is now as loud as shouting. This means the trait is pointless in its current form. Can you possibly adjust the volume? Perhaps the developers will fix it in future but I don't want to give up my current game.

It was a pleasure assuming control and maintaining this mod for you all to enjoy, but it will no longer be needed in future.

But also, with the introduction of 42.5 this persistent cough is now implemented in basegame, albeit at a lower frequency than what this is, so I guess this mod is rendered useless now.
