Description
Bon Voyage, a fond maptastic farewell to Cities: Skylines

Why?
Skylines II is being released in a few short weeks, and after over six years as part of the map making community it didn't seem right to let the old game go without a parting gift to the many who will be staying.

What?
Originally inspired by the late great Ecania (the original pope of fantasy maps) I've wanted to make a true fantasy map for the longest time. Despite being well established I have never felt my skills extended to this level before now. So using my knowledge and experience this is my take on the multi-levelled plateau map.

When?
With the new game only weeks away, and plenty of prep required for my YouTube channel to evolve, I needed to rush this map out a little faster than I would have liked. It already has over 100 hours ploughed into it, so it isn't a hack, but if you look closely enough you will find things which I would have marked down on a regularly reviewed map. Please feel free to point and laugh,

How?
100% hand crafted in the map editor. Much of this was live streamed on YouTube, so if you really want to see you can find it on my channel.

About the map

Basic Information
100% vanilla
No DLC required
Base Theme: Temperate
Tree count: 182,407 (max)

Requirements
None.

Optional
If you happen to have any of the following mods/DLCs you will gain the following benefits:

Prop Control by algernon -
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2956854293
Some areas outside of the centre 25 tiles have been detailed with resized props. If you have this mod these props will be rendered at the correct size. If you don't it shouldn't negatively affect your visuals, but if you do discover some odd but hidden away detailing, this may be why. There is also some prop snapping meaning that castle gateways might not be at the correct elevation – but you probably won't notice. There's also a fair amount of anarchy detailing which would be lost in vanilla, but this won't affect your gameplay at all. Without this mod you will only get a small proportion of the total tree count.

81 Tiles 2 by algernon -
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2862121823
The map is optimised for the vanilla player and all the 25 unlockable tiles are buildable. The outer tiles can be accessed by this mod, with some interesting but normally inaccessible areas. As modded players are often more experienced and skilled these outer areas are deliberately more challenging than the centre.

Theme Mixer 2 by Nyoko -
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3031623332
The map uses the vanilla temperate theme, however the map was designed using a custom theme mix, which has been used in the screenshots. If you use the vanilla theme the map will work, but won't look nearly as good. If you want a single individual custom theme, without the extra resource usage of the mod, simply use:
Inda by Krupto Rus - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2075916449.
The mix only requires one other theme, that being Endangered Valley Map Theme by nikoworld11 – https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784166822 for the cliff and sand texture.
Finally, in Atmosphere, Exposure has been increased to 1.02

Mass Transit DLC along with Traffic Manager President Edition by Krzychu1245 -
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1637663252
The start square intersection has been tested in 100% vanilla to a city size of 21k, all running through the tunnel. The only problems I encountered were from my own reckless speed build city design. The intersection held up pretty well. However, if you have the above listed mod and DLC use the colour coded diagram (below) to upgrade the roads and insert traffic control for an even better performance. I did consider making a Mass Transit version of this map, but for the very few changes needed I decided to leave this as an opt in for each individual subscriber.

Sunset Harbour DLC
All the little fishes, and some big ones are out there too. Beware the sea monsters.

Industries DLC
Ore, Oil, and Farming are localised, dense in coverage, and have large flat areas suitable for the larger sized footprints of the DLC buildings.

Gameplay

The map has been designed to allow for multiple play-throughs. Check this image for suggested nine-tile layouts. Please share your own in the comments.

Design Features

Highways
There are only two highway connections, running across the length of the coast. This is to encourage you to design connections deeper into the map. The start intersection has an unfinished extension to help you get started.
Intersection
This was inspired by Moseltal by agusingnavy -
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1127181024
- though I have made a number of small creative changes; removing two slip roads, and adding a loop back. For more amazing designs please check agusingnavy's workshop.

Rail
While there is only one outside rail connection this splits into two separate lines, one for passengers terminating in the north downtown area, and a freight line servicing each of the three main specialist industry areas with its own individual terminus.

Shipping and Air
There are three separate shipping routes, two up the main canals, and one into the harbour lagoon. One air route dissects the middle of the map. None of these connections completely crosses the map so the only ships/planes that will spawn will be heading to your harbours/runways.

Water
There are rivers and/or lake water sources in all of the 25 centre tiles. You are never far from somewhere to wear your trunks. There may be some temporary light flooding when you start the game in isolated parts of the map, but this will resolve itself very quickly.

Waterfalls
There are many. Those acting as spawn points are deliberately over-engineered, and won't be to everyone's taste. This is fine, and why I only made this style on the map's edge.

Specialist Resources
There's some themed detailing in the specialist resource areas, a quarry, irrigated fields, and an oil field.

Fake Roads
I tried something different to help inspire the city builder, using 'fake roads' to break up the downtown/midtown/uptown. If you don't like, this is why the game has a free bulldozer tool.

Memes
The essential lighthouse, everybody's favourite factory, the big ol' bridge, and much more, because obviously I had too. There are a couple of extra secrets which are designed to be bulldozed the minute you find them. Please do :-)

What's next?

I'm going to explore and learn Cities: Skylines 2, with a view to providing the best possible news, tutorials, and reviews for the years to come. I'm not saying I will never return to CS1, I mean CS2 could crash and burn (it won't, but it could), but my focus will be switching over to the new game, and I hope many of you will be joining me. The Chart Show for CS1 may continue, very much time permitting.

And finally...

A big thank you to the BonBonBuddies, my channel supporters on Patreon and YouTube Membership, without you I may have quit years ago. If you want to join them my social links are in all of my videos, and there are thousands of those to choose from.

A final shout out to all of the map makers, theme creators, modders, asseteers, vehicle designers, cim breeders, and everybody else in the community who has helped to keep this game alive and fresh over the years. Respect and love to you all.

Thanks BonBonB. IT actually works fine now. It was happening with that big train/metro hub. As soon as I built another station that started showing up. Again thanks for the all content you’re putting here and on YouTube. Cheers!

Hi Andeca, I don't have an answer for you I'm afraid. I will have a look but it is probably just dumb mechanics.

Great map! Just lovely, lots of details and I ve been having a great time with it. Congratulations BonBonB!
I am just having issues with trains not showing up. Only passenger station for the moment but I had zero intercity trains after a couple of hours

@BonBonB Thanks, I reread your description and figured it out. Thanks for the map and all your CS1 videos on YouTube.

@markg - After an hour of trying and failing to get Steam to accept the custom mix (repeated error messages & game restarts) I gave up. The mix is very easy to recreate as detailed above, and will only take the player a few seconds to recreate so I'm not sweating too much.

@SirHumphrey - Thanks. This was always the key factor for this map

@Bus-ee - I could, but this is my last map for CS1

@Snowlitzer - Thanks buddy, If map editing is confirmed in the new game I am certain there will be some variant of What Map for CS2
