Galdur Scout Pod

Description
Galdur Scout Pod

The Galdur Pod is both a shuttle and a drone (onboard or remote control). It's mainly intended to be added to other subs in the sub builder, but it's actually a lot of fun to drive around by itself on a mission! Or as a (very crowded) respawn shuttle. It's as easy to drive as a scooter, with great visibility all around.

Update: If you want to try the Galdur Pod on a vanilla sub, check out the Galdur Pod Vanilla Pack.

Most of the work was on the control system, which lets you control all operations from a single onboard periscope. There's no shuttle navigation terminal at all.
  • Click and hold to move in the direction of the cursor. Release to auto-stop.
  • Double click and hold to fire the chaingun.
  • Double click on the hatch (or its shadow) to dock or undock.
  • While docked, click to fire the chaingun like a normal turret.

The same controls also work from a remote periscope (wifi channels 711 and 712). The onboard and remote operators can even cooperate, with one piloting while the other handles the turret. Or you could drive it to a wreck, get out to explore inside the wreck, and the captain back on the main sub can take over the Galdur to provide fire support.

The chaingun has a huge firing arc (blind spot only in the top left) and the whole shuttle is made of transparent components, so you can see and fire in pretty much any direction. The hull is standard sub toughness, which is better than most shuttles, but that's still not much on such a tiny hull. It will sink quickly when attacked, but it's also quick to repair and can fight while stuck on the bottom.

There's no sonar, but with the visibility it has you really don't need it, and you can hold a handheld sonar while on the periscope that will still show waypoints (even though the sonar itself is scrambled inside the hull).

Safety tips: There's no oxygen generator onboard, so wear a diving suit! And when you need to get out during a mission, make sure you park the pod on the sea floor or some other surface first, because it will sink like a rock when you open the hatch. Also note that the cursor is relative to the turret, so if you want to move straight up or down, keep your cursor above or below the turret rather than the center of the shuttle.

If you have feedback on how the controls work or any questions about adding it to your sub, leave a comment!

General Stats

I am modifying it, and increasing hull size. I am then wondering how to make it move up/down faster as the increased hull size slows it down.
I see the memory component under the pump, but what does the 84.37 mean and how was it calculated?

Awesome drones, thanks for all the circuits and sharing them! I'm making a Galdur-D variant (D for dual crew, larger, longer, and more cargo hahaha... )
I noticed there seems to be an issue with the top airlock freezing open and refusing to close when a bot departs. Result is catastrophic and irreversible flooding. Not sure why... An issue with the hatch logic? Delving into the circuit but it's not obvious to me. Any help appreciated, thanks!

I couldn't get the drone to undock from the razorback sub this is packaged with, so I hacked something together in the editor. heres a step by step guide.

1, load the galdur drone and place a button somewhere
2. press ctr+2 to enter wiring mode, press E over the button, press 1 to get wire
3. drag wire over the only pin on the button. press E on docking hatch and wire "toggle_state"
4. save galdur drone under new name and load a razorback or whatever
5. click existing shuttle/pod outline and press delete on your keyboard
6. at the top center-ish there is a dropdown menu, find the galdur you edited and select it
7. place it where the old shuttle/whatever used to be, then click it to select
8. hold spacebar, click the docking hatch to link them together, then test to make sure it works.
9 if it does work, then save your sub under a new name, then repeat 5 through 9 for each sub

How do I get one of my NPC's to man the chaingun while inside of the pod and not from within the sub?

Hello Kerbarian! I wanted to say thank you for making this shuttle and especially the circuit that runs it! I was looking for something similar when I came across this beauty. Would you mind if I include the circuit in a shuttle/sub combo that I'm working on? I'll give you credit of course and point people to your mod page! Thanks either way!

Hey @Burksty, you saved me a lot of time. I'm thought i going mad :D Anyway, I set the components "Max value length" to 5 in the editor.

In performance fix mod, i'm added these: Client/Server High Priority Components/items:

wificomponent,turret,AndComponent,EqualsComponent,GreaterComponent,AdderComponent,ColorComponent,SubtractComponent,MultiplyComponent,DivideComponent,ExponentiationComponent,OrComponent,XorComponent,NotComponent,ConcatComponent,TrigonometricFunctionComponent,FunctionComponent,ModuloComponent,RelayComponent,DelayComponent,MemoryComponent

This thing is pretty great, simple but effective in a small pod.
Not too difficult to install if you know your way around the editor. im not good at it but my dumbass eventually figured it out.
I made a couple of minor tweaks of my own on this thing for a reworked orca 2 that im planning to submit once im happy with it. (with all credits to the pod to Kerbarian, as one should).
Nothing major, just a cargo rack slapped to the ladder for easy access and a diving suit locker.

Now im playing with the idea of adding the nuke torpedo you made onto the pod itself for laughs. A last resort option once chaingun ammo depletes, if you will. :D
Shuttles (and certain crewmembers) are replacable commodies after all.
