What is a dummy train ?

"Dummy train" is a term used train assets in Cities: Skylines that look like freight train but in fact a passenger train consist.

Dummy trains are used to 'simulate' freight use in a map or a train line, done by creating a passenger train line and then using these dummy trains on said line. This allows players to customize and precise the amount and types of freight trains they can assign on a specific part of the segment.

As they are passenger trains, they do not carry cargo, thus their use is entirely for visuals.
