(2 - 4) Lanzerath Ridge

Battle of Lanzerath Ridge was fought on December 16, 1944, the first day of the Battle of the Bulge. The battle saw an 18 man strong force of American reconnaissance force from the 99th Infantry hold off 500 Fallschirmjaeger (German paratroopers). A case of wrong place wrong time the Americans found themselves outnumbered and cutoff from friendly lines given the order to “hold out at all costs” the town of Lanzerath was the chosen path for the 6th Panzer division, the Americans held off a superior force until they were outflanked at dusked a captured. The 99th Infantry Division would later become the most decorated Division of WWII.
