Ceramics Expanded

Description
This mod expands the ceramic industry, allowing your dwarves to make more items out of ceramics, and use more materials for glazing with a wide variety of colours, depending on what resources are available at the embark.

Note: This mod will mark several non-economic stones as economic, so make sure to check your Stone use tab if you're wondering why certain stones aren't getting used.

Non-Steam users can find it on DFFD as "[50.xx] Ceramics Expanded"!

-- Glazes --

Glazes are made using the Pottery skill at a Kiln. The process doesn't require fuel in most cases, producing them in stacks of four bars per job. These glaze bars can then be used in the normal glazing jobs. Glaze bars are stored in Bar/Block stockpiles under Metal bars, except ash bars which remain in Other.

The primary three glaze types are Ash, Lead, and Salt, each of which can produce different colours when mixed with various minerals. Ash is just regular wood ash, lead glaze is made using galena (not lead metal), and salt glaze is made using rock salt. There is also Bismuth glaze (using bismuthite), and Bone Ash glaze which is the only one that requires fuel to produce, since you need to calcinate animal bones to produce bone ash first.

A complete list of glazes and their components can be found in the included readme.txt.

Note: Glazes only affect the description (and value) of items, as the game currently doesn't apply glaze colour improvements to the in-game sprites.

-- More Ceramic Items --

More objects can be made out of ceramics: coffins, display cases, flasks, mugs, pedestals, slabs, table, and thrones. Each makes one item per clay boulder, except mugs which are produced in sets of three, and clay bricks which are made in sets of four.

If you're looking for a lighter mod that just adds more items without all the glazes, check out Aura's "Extra Ceramics"!

-- Bone Porcelain --

A new type of ceramic can be produced, a translucent bone porcelain (aka "bone china") that is slightly more valuable than regular porcelain. This uses a clay that must be manufactured at a kiln using bone ash, kaolinite, and microcline or orthoclase rock. The resulting bone porcelain clay can then be used as normal, and is stored in Stone stockpiles (as stone, not clay).

-- Installation --

Subscribe here on the Workshop, or unpack into the DF mods folder if you're using the DFFD version, then enable the mod when generating a new world!

-- Compatibility --

This mod replaces the vanilla clay item reactions—clay bricks, crafts, hives, jugs, large pots, and statues—and their corresponding glazing reactions. Anything else that modifies these will likely conflict.

Thank you for clearing this up! I was thinking there was a universal glaze bar for which all the recipes were based off of. Now I know it just separated into very specific sections based on what i want to build.

@Jarl44k The glaze-producing jobs don't have "bars" in the name, so it'll be eg. "Make amber ash glaze", and so on; there should be a submenu in the Kiln for "Make ceramic glaze" if things are working correctly. In the stockpile they'll appear as eg. "Amber ash glaze bars" and are stockpiled under metal bars.

For some reason, 'Glaze bars' cannot be found any where in in either the Kiln/ Magma Kiln, or in the Work Orders menu or sub menu. I've tried this with and without other mods. The results are the same. Either I'm missing something, read your description wrong, or there is a bug here.
I cannot find the specific item 'Glaze bar'. But I've found 'Bismuth Glaze', 'Lead Glaze' and such. Could any one tell me what i'm missing here?

Seconding Alora's request, being able to have some specificity would be wonderful, especially with things like bone clay being so valuable.

I don't know if it's possible to mod in, but being able to choose material types would be incredibly helpful with the wide number of glazes and clays out there

can you do a version that bone porcelain only is able to use kaolinite? since fire clay is free it's not balanced IMO

Adding [IS_STONE] on bone porcelain clay works just fine for me. It's possible to enable it for use with masonry, but its use is disabled by default, like with kaolinite (and it's a similar material, so that makes sense to me).

@Catwet12 I think I deliberately left out the [SOIL] and [IS_STONE] tokens to prevent bone porcelain clay soil layers showing up in worldgen (in the first case) and using the raw clay as stone in crafting (in the second case).

Per Плита, and a bit of poking around myself, you need to add either [stone] or [soil] to bone porcelain clay in its template so that it can be stored in a stockpile. i did this and now it works:

[INORGANIC:CE_BONE_PORCELAIN_CLAY] mixture of bone ash, kaolinite and orthoclase
[USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:SOIL_TEMPLATE]
[STATE_NAME_ADJ:ALL_SOLID:bone porcelain clay]
[DISPLAY_COLOR:7:0:1][TILE:178]
[STATE_COLOR:ALL_SOLID:WHITE]
[SOIL]
[SOLID_DENSITY:1210]
[MATERIAL_REACTION_PRODUCT:FIRED_MAT:INORGANIC:CE_CERAMIC_BONE_PORCELAIN]

This mod adds the reactions to both humans and dwarves, but if another mod is cutting and replacing them (which is what I suspect is what's going on) it'll depend on mod load order. Try moving Ceramics Expanded below the playable race mod in the load order.
