SSV Hastings

Description
The Hastings class frigate is the bread and butter of the Systems Alliance Second Fleet. Stationed in the Terminus Systems, the fleet operates in some of the most remote and hostile regions of space known to humanity, where dreadnoughts and cruisers are simply a bigger target. Instead, the protection of human colonies rely on the speed and agility of frigate flotillas capable of rapid response and intervention. The Hastings class is hardy, yet relatively cheap to manufacture and suited to operating both alone and in strike groups.

The Hastings itself is notable as the former posting of Admiral David Anderson, where he commanded a marine fireteam involved in clandestine operations across the Skyllian Verge. Despite its combat capabilities, the vessel is aging and its technology outdated. As such, the Hastings class is set to be decommissioned, and slowly replaced by the next generation Normandy class.

Important Information

Buffer batteries
  • Main engine on this submarine uses buffer batteries to function.
  • Buffers are marked in special casing with blue paint.
  • Failure to maintain buffers will result in loss of engine power

Weapons
  • Weapon fire rate is dependent on both buffer power and supercapacitor charge
  • Weapon fire rate will gradually decrease as the engine drains buffers
  • Weapons will cease to fire if buffer charge drops below 10%
  • Decrease throttle on engine to allow buffers to recharge
  • Upgrade batteries and increase engine efficiency to ensure weapons do not run out of power
  • Two discharge coils covering front and rear blindspots can be triggered via the navigation terminal button

Shuttle
  • The shuttle is housed in a dry dock hanger
  • Bots cannot repair the shuttle
  • Bots cannot enter the shuttle because they will get stuck
  • Do not undock shuttle when the main ship is docked to an outpost
  • Do not cross the glowing blue line to the right of the hangar

Systems menu
  • The bridge contains a holographic systems menu accessed via the periscope
  • Move cursor around to highlight options
  • Left click mouse to select highlighted option
  • In multiplayer, the menu will lag; multiple clicks may be required or the mouse must be held down for approx 1 sec
  • In case of ballast flora, use the menu to flush the infected pump

Secondary electrical grid
  • A backup power grid is housed in a sealed compartment above the cargo hold
  • Backup will facilitate power in case of catastrophic failure of main junction boxes
  • Use the navigation terminal button to reroute power through this grid
  • Backup grid will only provide power to critical control systems

Backup batteries
  • Batteries will not supply power to main engine as it cannot be sustained
  • Batteries will power a smaller, auxiliary engine to the right of the main engine
  • Main engine may still run after power loss depending on the charge left in buffers

I'm just waiting for something like the plague rat but with backup power, just some submarine without gimmicks with this power system and a good armament, while not sacrificing decor

AI are having tons of issues using weapons, going up ladders, and repairing the hull. I'm using server-side Lua in multiplayer, for reference. Other than that, this ship looks awesome!

I tried the switch and got nothing. Ended up pulling the "Hangertop" off of the sub and the shuttle docked perfectly. ended up reducing the walkable space in the dock but made the shuttle useable again

the update might have changed the behavior of docking hatches, try using the switch near the ladder in the hangar to manually open the hangar

The shuttle refuses to redock. It acts like there is a solid barrier in the way. We undocked out in the field away from a station and now we cant retrieve it. Are we missing something?

Suggestion: Make a lockdown system, improve the hull a bit (make it to where a crawler touching the bridge dosen't make a bridge unusable) and try doing that automatic reactor thing, I love your builds and I like that you are working to improve it, But these are my suggestions. Also. Move the captains quarters so if a reactor decides to go chernobl you don't loose your own personal room.
