Description
Ready to think with portals in Arma 3?
Congratulations! You are now (able to be) in possession of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. With it, you can create your own portals. These intra-dimensional gates have proven to be completely safe. The Device, however, has not:
  • Do not touch the operational end of The Device.
  • Do not look directly at the operational end of The Device.
  • Do not submerge The Device in liquid, even partially.
  • Most importantly, under no circumstances should you [REDACTED]



Features:
  • A 1:1 scale, 2K-textured fully functional and animated portal gun
  • Fully functional portals* that can transport units, vehicles, PhysX objects, and projectiles**, as well as completely conserving the momentum of anything that passes through them
  • Portal gun grabber arms that you can use to pick up and move PhysX objects
  • A combustible lemon grenade that can burn your house down
  • A version of the portal gun with a talking potato that will respond to certain events
  • Various PhysX-compatible objects from the Portal series such as the companion cube and radio which can be placed from 3DEN or Zeus under Props > Things > Portal. (These can be picked up with the grabber arms!)
  • Optional updating custom portal crosshair (with adjustable size)
  • Full multiplayer compatibility
  • Easily and heavily customizable via the CBA Addon Options menu
  • Rebindable controls via Controls > Configure Addons > Portal Gun
  • Full localization for over 10 languages (see end of description for details)
  • Fully open source[github.com] with documentation, licensed under Apache 2.0[www.apache.org]
  • A cake-based IED that may or may not exist
*NOTE: Portals utilize teleportation rather than being actual "holes" in the geometry. This is due to the limitations of Arma's engine. If BI ever makes actual holes possible, we will add them.
**NOTE: Aiming projectiles through portals can be difficult due to the distortion caused by Arma's camera system. This is unavoidable due to the above point, so there's nothing we can do about this.



Known Issues:
  • Bullets and other extremely high-velocity projectiles are not always teleported successfully
    STATUS: Likely not fixable, due to latency and other factors
  • Other people's portals in MP behave less consistently than your own portals
    STATUS: Likely not fixable, mainly due to latency
  • Portals sometimes appear to clip partially through surfaces
    STATUS: Likely not fixable, different surfaces use inconsistent model LODs for surface features

@Gunga Din KT I mean, you can use all of it, it all works: there's a prop version of the cake and a plantable landmine version; there's also a combustible lemon grenade.

Here's answers to your 3 questions:
1. That object lets you define custom portals as world objects. There's a wiki attached to the Github page (linked in the description) that describes how to work with the advanced features of the mod including these. For normal purposes, though, you don't have to worry about these.
2. Everyone can use any portal, but generally the portals work the most reliably for the person that put them down due to the way the networking works.
3. Everyone needs the mod loaded, including the server if playing on dedicated.

Thanks sysroot. So the main feature here is the gun. I shouldn't get hung up on the cake or radio or anything like that?

Three more questions please
- what does the PORTAL object do that is black and stands upright?
- If I create a blue and orange portal can my squad mates use them or do they also need their own gun?
- Do they need the mod loaded in their side?

It's worth looking at the addon options in general; this mod is extremely customizable and you'll be able to tweak the settings so that it behaves how you want.

@Gunga Din KT I was referring to the description here on the workshop :P

As far as planting a portal 3 clicks away goes, it should be possible, but you'll want to make sure you have the portal gun's max distance setting adjusted appropriately in the addon options. I believe it caps out at 5km since that's the engine's distance limitation for raycasts.

Hey thanks for answering. You don't mean the "description.ext" file right? But basic question with what I tried so far...Using the Portal Gun I have to reach my objective in order to plant a 2nd portal. Is there a way to plant a portal 3 clicks away and then jump to there?
