Mashed's Lynians

Description
[discord.gg]
[github.com]

Adds in all the Lynian races from the Monster Hunter series using the Humanoid Alien Race framework. As well as an assortment of equipment and abilities for them to use.

Small humanoid creatures, often resembling either a cat, or a goblin. Originally created to serve as assistants to settlers and explorers. Many Lynians have since set off on their own, establishing small tribes.

Though small in stature, Lynians are surprisingly decent at taking a beating, and eat somewhat less than regular humans. Though they are slightly slower at all kinds of work.

There's new player and non-player factions for each Lynian race, and they can even show up as a starting colonist, and in non-player outlander factions.

Felyne are the most commonly sighted Lynian species, likely thanks to their relaxed nature, and willingness to help others. They can often be found working in kitchens, serving at shop stalls, and tending farms.

Melynx are a fairly common subspecies of Felyne. While just as adorable as Felyne, Melynx have an innate curiosity that many of them find difficult to control, sometimes valuable items seem to disappear around Melynx. Because of this many people are somewhat cautious around Melynx, though this doesn't stop Melynx from being employed in farms and kitchens.

The most elusive species of cat-like Lynian, Grimalkyne are often highly cautious of outsiders, preferring to hide in the shadows until they are gone. This innate caution has resulted in them being highly adaptable, as they prefer to live away from 'civilisation'.

One of the breeds of goblin-like Lynian, while usually quite savage, Shakalaka will occasionally assimilate into society. Like their cousins, Shakalaka are rather reclusive, and are very rarely seen without their masks on. They are most at home in temperate and tropical locations, often scavenging in ruins for broken weapons to melt down. They also show a strange fondness for dancing, and will often perform dances to aid their allies.

One of the breeds of goblin-like Lynian, Gajalaka are characterised by their red skin, and savage temperament. Like their cousins, Gajalaka are rather reclusive, and are very rarely seen without their masks on. They usually make their home in rocky, and sometimes volcanically active, regions, where they can put their innate mining skills to work.

A strange breed of goblin-like Lynian, well adapted for the frigid north. Like their cousins, Boaboa are rather reclusive, and are very rarely seen without their masks on. They make for excellent hunters, and are very protective of their hunting grounds.

A comparatively strange species of Lynian, Uruki do not fall under either cat-like or goblin-like Lynians, and instead exhibit a mixture of traits from both. While generally incredibly peaceful, spending most of their time tending to their flower fields, Uruki are known to become rather aggressive when threatened.

A small flowering plant, often found growing in Felyne and Melynx villages. While for most races it's simply a beautiful looking flower, for cat-like Lynians the scent of the flowers is simply divine, and slightly intoxicating.

Felvine flowers can be prepared into powder at the crafting spot. While felvine flowers make a user feel relaxed, felvine powder has the opposite effect, putting one into a battle frenzy, but causing them to become fatigued quickly.

  • There's a great deal of Lynian specific apparel and weapons that can be researched and crafted at two new crafting spots, with many items giving additional bonuses to various stats.
  • Each Lynian race has its own non-player faction, complete with a custom pawn kinds and a unique trader kind.
  • Eurekacorns can be purchased from appropriate Lynian factions, and can be consumed by Lynians, granting them a new ability.
  • A rather special mask that you can obtain from quests, and even set as an Ideo relic.
  • Several new Ideology Mask Wearing memes, ensuring your goblin-like Lynians can show off their culture.
  • Lynian dye kit, to modify the colour of your Lynians.

  • While Lynians can have most genes, they are can't have cosmetic genes.
  • Lynians can only be baseliner or sanguophage xenotypes. It's a very simple xml edit if you want to enable other xenotypes.
  • Finally, Lynians can only have offspring with other Lynians.
  • No Biotech version of this mod at this point.

An extra mod that adds in the Gold Tribe Gajalaka faction, as well as some additional equipment. Available here.

  • Medieval Overhaul by SirLalaPyon, distributing Lynians throughout the new player factions, among other basic compatibility patches.
  • Unique and Rare Items by Morphium, making a certain mask unique.
  • SeedsPlease Lite by Owlchemist, adding seeds for felvine.
  • Toddlers by Cyanobot, adding support for the toddler life stage.
  • Hunting Meme by Alexis Popcorn, adding it as a required meme for the non-player Boaboa faction.

  • Based on Monster Hunter, by Capcom.
  • Seed bag texture used in the SeedsPlease Lite patch by CitizenKanye.
  • Thanks to Ranger Rick for some of the achievement names.

I have never had an issue with HAR in my runs and I use too many mods. Only time I had issues it wasn't HAR it was me getting gun-ho and adding like 30 damn races with their own unique animations and events.

@S-Tier Bussy HAR actually does far far more than what biotech does or can do out of the gate. With that said not only would the author have to remake the entirety of the mod (since a good amount uses custom stuff from HAR or has had mashed make it based on mechanics only made possible with HAR and harmony) it would mean cutting and gutting core mechanics of the mod itself only to be then locked behind a paywall that is a dlc which is what the author is avoiding all together. While many people do use the dlc everyone can use HAR. Personally I don’t see the issue people have, most of it is failure to read incompatibilities or using far too many mods than what’s good for them. This is a 10/10 mod would never remake again.

@SirMashedPotato, fair enough but a lot of people ceased using HAR once Biotech was released/purchased, it can cause more problems than needed as well as doing many of the same things. Hopefully someone could make a Biotech version with your permission in the future.

@MrSchadenfreude, I'm assuming you mean will I remake this entire mod, and any HAR features this mod relies on, to use Biotech instead of HAR?

At this point no. It's a lot of work. And then the mod would be locked behind a paid DLC.

Do you have plans on making each of them actual xenotypes in the future?

Thank you for uploading to 1.5!

Simply my opinion - a standalone mask mod would be nice. The artwork is fantastic, but some of us don't want to use HAR :)

@Icelus, honestly would mind. Easy enough to make a patch mod that allows humans to wear the masks, or an addon mod that adds human sized versions of them.

Hi there, would you mind if I make a stand alone version with only the masks and make them wearable by humans?
SirMashedPotato  [author] May 3, 2024 @ 2:47pm
Well that was a partial lie. It's updated to 1.5 now.
