Ultimate RE0 Mod List
Por ☂️ Conan 🌴
This guide seeks to compile some of the essential, useful and awesome mods created by the community into one (hopefully) convenient place for RE0 HD.

So if you're a newcomer to RE0 coming from RE1, or a returning fan seeking to replay the game in the current year, I hope you find this helpful on your modding journey... Notify me through the comments if there are any dead links to downloads, inaccuracies etc and I’ll try to amend them in my own time. I'll be sure to credit any and all authors of mods, videos and Steam guides of which I followed while making this one so please do support them!

GC/Wii Shader Restoration
To download and find out more about the mod, check out the creator, Masterotaku's Steam thread on the shader.
Similar to RE1, this real-time graphics mod adds hotkeys to disable the contrast boosting shader responsible for crushing the blacks in this remaster. It attempts to replicate the levels we saw in the GameCube/Wii release while also removing film grain and balancing the lighting.

It's not as noticeable nor essential as the version made for the REHD Remaster, since Capcom had the files for the pre-rendered backgrounds this time around; whereas they lost the originals for REmake and instead had to aggressively upscale the lower res GameCube ones for the 2015 remaster. With the right tweaks, this shader basically makes the game look less green/yellow and grainy.

It binds toggles for the Noise Filter, Colour Filter and Fog to F1-F3 respectively. Note that some of the effects are made to compensate for each other's brightness and contrast, so sometimes disabling just one effect won't be a good idea. There aren't any clear cut suggestions to which ones to use like with RE1. For most scenarios, I would recommend you always have film grain OFF, the GC colour filter ON and just fog turned off. Some areas of the train look better with the colour filter, some look way too bright, so test for yourself what combination you like the most.

Here is a comparison[cdn.knightlab.com]against the default settings.

More Screenshot Comparisons:
Example 2[cdn.knightlab.com] (Colour, w/Film Grain, Shadows and Fog OFF)
Example 3[cdn.knightlab.com] (Colour, w/Film Grain OFF)
Example 4[cdn.knightlab.com] (Colour, w/Film Grain and Fog OFF)

Instructions
  1. Download the mod here.
  2. Extract the contents of that file into the root folder of the game,
    "X:\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0".

Hotkeys (by default all effects are untouched):

F1: Noise filter toggle.
F2: Black Crush/Colour Filter toggle.
F3: Fog toggle. It has three presets. Default, one that disables just fog (though characters will still have the fog lighting on them) and one that disables both shadows and fog.

The noise filter was probably made in part to mask banding and compression artifacts. With the effect disabled you will definitely notice it in the darker areas, so if/when you want to toggle it is up to you.

If you're using the FPS Fix Mod, which is also a "d3d9.dll", rename it to something else and uncomment the...
ProxyLib = "I:\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0\fpsfix.dll"
line in "DX9Settings.ini", writing the correct path to the renamed dll.
Huge thanks again to masterotaku for this mod!
Door Skip mod - RE0 HD Remaster / RE1 HD Remaster

Depending on your stance on the classic RE door animations, this mod may be essential to your enjoyment of RE0. Thanks to the removal of item boxes *sigh*, the game requires much more backtracking than RE1. In that game it was bearable, but games like RE0 make it no mystery why many players find the door animations annoying. There are a few options for skipping doors, but any one will greatly improve transition times between rooms. Normal door animations last roughly 8 seconds, both author's mods will reduce them to 2.2.

See for yourself!
For this mod you have 3 options.
  1. A standalone mod by user ThirteenAG (Produces the slowest results I find, but doesn't require activation every time on startup)
  2. Another standalone version by FluffyQuack
  3. Via a trainer built into FluffyQuack's "Mod Manager 5000" (Produces the fastest door transitions, but requires activation every time on startup).

Option 1 (ThirteenAG's Standalone Mod)
This mod by ThirteenAG skips all door animations in the game. It's worth noting that this mod can also be used for the RE1 HD Remaster on Steam.
  1. Download the mod here[github.com].
  2. Open the RE0.RE1.DoorSkipPlugin.zip and copy and paste the files (dinput8.dll and Scripts folder) into your game directory: \Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0
Your folder should then look like this.

Option 2 (FluffyQuack's Standalone Mod)
  1. Download the mod here[github.com]
  2. Open the rehd-nodoors,zip and place the program in the game folder (SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Resident Evil Biohazard HD REMASTER) and do any one of the following:
a) Run the exe, then run the game. The tool will wait for the game to start and then automatically apply the mod.
b) Run the game, then run the tool. The tool will instantly apply the mod.
c) Run the tool with the "-launchRE1" or "-launchRE0" command line argument and it'll start RE1 HD or RE0 HD for you, then wait for the game to fully startup before applying the mod.

The mod is then deactivated whenever you quit the game.

Trainer
With the game running, open up the mod manager and navigate to the "Choose Game" > "Resident Evil 0 HD" > "Trainer" >"Skip Doors" option.

-Notes
  • You will most likely receive a "Windows protected your PC" warning if you decide to use FluffyQuack's standalone mod. Run the tool anyway. FluffyQuack recently uploaded a new version of the mod which should finally convince most anti-virus programs that it's safe.
  • The door skip mod ONLY works with the latest release available on Steam.
  • Both mods do not disable achievements.
Huge thanks again to both ThirteenAG and FluffyQuack again for these mods. Definitely check out Fluffy's guide on his mod and Youtube!

FPS Fix
This port forces the internal rendering resolution to 1920x1440, which can cause performance issues on some low-medium range systems. This mod may dramatically increase FPS if you're experiencing such framerate or slowdown issues.

Option 1 (Atom0s)
  1. Download the latest version of the fix here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Extract the d3d9.dll and d3d9proxy.ini file from the archive and place them in your game installation folder. Located in \Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0, the same folder as the games executable, re0hd.exe.

You can also configure parameters through the provided .ini file. Be sure to only edit things you understand. Editing things incorrectly or with unusable values can cause the game to crash. Crashes can lead to corrupting your save data, edit with care.

Option 2 (Vertex)
If that didn't improve your performance, try this second fix by Vertex.
  1. Download the fix here[community.pcgamingwiki.com].
I know it says it's for the RE1 HD Remaster, but it can be used for RE0 too.
  2. Copy the d3d9.dll file to your game installation folder. Located in \Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0.
RE Mod Manager
Since a lot of these next mods may require manually installing, swapping between and backing up, this easy-to-use mod manager developed by FluffyQuack instead makes modding RE0 take seconds rather than minutes. No need to worry about keeping backups as this tool automatically takes the original files and restores them when a mod is uninstalled. It doesn't just support RE0 either! If you've ever modded any of the RE Engine games then you'll be familiar with FluffyQuack's mod manager. It obviously works for the RE games, 1-8 but can also be used for DMC 4 & 5, Monster Hunter Rise, Street Fighter V, and much much more!

An enormous thanks again to FluffyQuack, his mod manager has certainly made testing out mods to capture for these guides MUCH easier for me. Go support the talented bloke on patreon[www.patreon.com] and twitch.[www.twitch.tv]

FluffyQuacks Steam guide. Go check it out!
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=602693012 I've labeled each mod with a specific category and their compatibility with the Fluffy Manager 5000 below, so you can easily see if they're able to be automatically installed by the manager, and so I don't have to say so for each one.

           ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Use these tags as a guide to installing them, whether automatically with the Fluffy Manager if they're compatible, or manually using the steps provided if they're incompatible. I will still include MANUAL instructions for specific mods below if you want to do it that way too.

Download
Download the latest version of Fluffy Manager 5000 here: https://residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/507/fluffy-manager-5000

Instructions
Simply unpack it to anywhere on your hard drive (ideally in an easy to access place like your Documents or Desktop folder), then run modmanager.exe to install it. Maybe make a shortcut for the program on your desktop while you're at it. Be sure to launch the "Updater.exe" or press "Downloads" > "Update to latest Fluffy Manager 5000" while the program is running to make sure it's up to date.

To install mods that are compatible with the mod manager, it's as simple as drag and dropping your mod (.rar file) into the program, as shown with me installing this simple Playstation Buttons mod.
You can then easily activate/deactivate them at any time. Of course there are rare exceptions where mods seem like they should be compatible when they aren't, but I will include instructions for the few that do require manual installation.

Note!
If you're having issues drag and dropping compatible .rar files into the window, make sure you don't have the file open in programs such as WinRAR or 7-ZIP. You can also try either running the manager as Administrator, or placing the .rar file in FluffyManager\Games\RE0HD\Mods (same place you installed the program).

If the mod is compatible with the manager but contained within a .zip file, you will need to extract it and place it in the "Mods" folder found in the same directory as the Modmanager.exe. For example mine is in D:\FluffyManager\Games\RE0HD\Mods.

I want to install this GameCube font mod, right... Dragging and dropping it into the program didn't work, so I extracted the .zip file and placed the folder in the "Mods" folder as shown instead.
Playstation Button Prompts
Similar to RE1, modder vectorunit0 has ripped the buttons from the PS3 version to give us the PlayStation buttons Capcom never gave us. This is a godsend and essential to anyone that uses a PS controller.
  1. Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the RE0ButtonsDS4.rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
GameCube Models, Font and UI
This section is for a collection of mods that help bring back most of the things this remaster changed/removed from the original 2002 release. Almost everything from the GameCube I prefer over the HD remaster’s version, so I would say some of these mods are essential if you're a RE0 purest.
Original Font
This mod by Mr. Bunny (similar to one for the RE1 HD Remaster) replaces the remaster’s boring default font with the original "typewriter" font used in the GameCube release.

Installing
  1. Download the font mod here.[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Unzip the "Original RE0 Font Update 1
    .zip"
folder, then place the extracted folder containing the files ("Original RE0 Font") in
    "..\Fluffy Manager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
Original GC Title Screens + N64 Prototype
This mod by Mr. Bunny replaces the title screen with either the original GameCube one, or the cancelled N64 title screen as a fun bonus. The GC version includes both the US/NTSC and EU/PAL logos and will load their respective one depending on what version you own.

HD Remaster (Default)
Original GC (USA)
Original GC (PAL)
Cancelled N64 Ver.

Installing
  1. Download your preferred title screen mod here.[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Unzip either the GC or N64 folder, then place the extracted folder containing the files in "..\Fluffy Manager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
GameCube Inventory Portraits
This modification by teo replaces the remaster’s fugly inventory portraits with the good ol’ original ones from the GameCube. The mod author essentially upscaled the original portraits in place of the HD Remaster's 3D model versions. Wesker's portrait has also been replaced with a higher-quality render of him found online.
More detailed comparison[cdn.knightlab.com]
There is a 1.0 and a 2.0 version to download. The only difference is that the mod author removed the TV-like fuzz effect in the 2.0 version.
Installing
  1. Download the mod here.[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the RE0HD - NGC Inventory Portraits (HQ).rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
Rebecca - GameCube Style
This reskin by bloodyhunter changes Rebecca's face and default "S.T.A.R.S. 2002" outfit to look closer to her original GameCube self. It reuses her face from REmake and the original RE0 to provide a more faithful model of her seen in the FMVs and in promotional art.

Default
GameCube
More detailed comparison[cdn.knightlab.com]

This version is much better in my opinion. This mod finally makes her look like a normal human being, instead of a weird anime-alien hybrid. Maybe Capcom took Billy's comment "Doll face" a bit too literally.

Download the mod here.[residentevilmodding.boards.net]Install as usual with the Fluffy Mod manager.
GameCube Style Samurai Edge
This simple texture edit by Bloodyhunter makes it so that the Handgun a.k.a Samurai Edge looks like the model from the GameCube version and various promotional renders used for RE0.

It now has the "custom Kendo shop" engraving on the slide instead of "Mod. Samurai Edge for police use only". The colour on the outer part of the logo (on the grip) has also been changed to black to resemble the GameCube version’s.

Installing
  1. Download the mod here.[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the Samurai Edge - Gamecube style.rar file into the Fluffy Mod manager.
Cosmetic Mods (Skin/Model edits)
Jillbecca (Rebecca and Jill mashup)
This mod by z0mbiegurl reskins the "S.T.A.R.S. Prototype" to look like Jill Valentine's iconic blue uniform and beret.

As said before, this reskin replaces the STARS Prototype costume, which is a DLC exclusive costume, so hopefully you purchased it. This mod MUST also be installed manually. Be sure to make a backup of your "DLC" folder located in the Resident Evil 0 installation folder before continuing.
Installing
  1. Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net].
  2. Copy the folder "nativePC" from mod archive to:
"Resident Evil 0"\DLC\381713\costume_rebecca_07\"   Replace any and ALL files when prompted.

REmake Rebecca
Similar to the Gamecube Style mod by bloodyhunter above, this mod by EvilLord simply changes Rebecca's face model to be the same as in the original RE0 and RE1 remake. It's not as good as bloodyhunter's version in my opinion, but you can decide which one to install.

Instead of downloading the mod yourself, this mod can be downloaded and installed completely by the Fluffy Manager 5000. Simply click "Choose Game" > "Resident Evil 0 HD" >"Downloads">"Remake Rebecca". Once the download has completed you can then install the mod by selecting it in the Mod List menu. How convenient!

RE4 Leon (Billy)
No thanks Yes please, bro! These 3 mods replace Billy's multiple outfits with Leon from RE4. These costumes were made by well renowned modder in the RE community, EvilLord in collaboration with JTeghius Kittius, so a huge thanks to both for these incredible mods.

With Jacket

This model swap replaces Billy's "Jacket" costume, so be sure to use the suitcase to change into it. You can also use the Fluffy Manager's trainer while the game is running and use the "Override Costume" function to set it from the get-go.
  1. Download here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
Without Jacket

This model swap replaces Billy's "Wolf Force" costume, so be sure to use the suitcase to change into it. You can also use the Fluffy Manager's trainer while the game is running and use the "Override Costume" function to set it from the get-go.
  1. Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
Leon R.P.D Outfit - Replaces Billy Default

This model swap replaces Billy's "default" outfit, so no need to use the briefcase to change outfit. With all 3 mods installed, you can then have access to each of the Leon outfits by changing between the default, Wolf Force and Jacket outfits.
  1. Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.

Ada Wong (RE4)

"Well..fit ain't the b*tch in the red dress". This mod by EvilLord replaces Rebecca with the RE4 Ada, and goes quite well with the Leon mod for Billy.
  1. Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  2. Drag and drop the Ada Wong For Rebecca.rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  3. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
Audio Mods
N64 Save Room Theme Remix
This mod by Mr. Bunny replaces the save room music with a remix based on the cancelled Nintendo 64 version of the track. The main differences are the key of the music track and the volume of some instruments (harp and french horns). Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]

  • Drag and drop the .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  • If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.

Save Room Theme - Mono Memory REmix
Since 2020, I've been a huge fan of Mono Memory, a synth-focused remixer and composer who specialises in Resident Evil remixes, "REmixes" if you will. One of his best and most popular tracks is his cover of the RE0 Save room theme, luckily a modder by the name of ReiKaz has replaced the original theme with it.

Download the mod here[residentevilmodding.boards.net]
  1. Drag and drop the .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  2. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.

Thanks to mod author ReiKaz for giving us this awesome mod. Of course a special thanks to Mono for the tunes, huge respect man, love ya mate. If you haven't already, sub to his Youtube, and support him on Bandcamp[monomemory.bandcamp.com].

Japanese Voiceover
This mod by ShiroiBara replaces all English voicover in cutscenes, movies and gameplay to Japanese, though the interface will remain English.

  • The title announcer has been replaced with the Japanese "Biohazard" equivalent, similar to the Japanese title screen mod (see the section below for more on that) and would go quite well with it to get the authentic "Biohazard 0" experience.

  • The PC demo play which plays after inactivity has been replaced for the PS3 version's Japanese J-pop music video instead of the English gameplay-based demo.

If you want to go full weeb, the interface can be changed to Japanese via Steam by right clicking on RE0 in your library, then going to "Properties" > "Languages" > "Japanese".
Download and Installation
  1. Download the mod (255.1MB) here[www.nexusmods.com]
  2. (*Optional*) Make a backup of your "nativePC" folder before continuing...
  3. Extract the .rar file. Copy and paste the "nativePC" folder from the mod archive into your game installation folder, located in:
    \Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 0\
Replace any and ALL files when prompted.
Miscellaneous
RE0 to BioHazard 0 Title Screen
This mod by EVERGREEN and 3getu841 replaces the intro video, title screen and voice announcer to the Japanese version's equivalent. The copyright mark on the Biohazard logo and the legal mention at the bottom of the screen have also been removed. End credits include the Biohazard logo & text as well. This mod requires no DLC and should work with every language.

There are two versions to choose from: one has the original Japanese style background with Rebecca and Billy, the other has the EU/US background with leeches, but with the Biohazard logo, announcer etc.
Original Japanese Title Screen
Biohazard Title Screen (with EU/PAL Backround)

Download the mod here[www.nexusmods.com]
  1. Drag and drop either the Characters (Japanese style) or Leeches (EU/US style) .rar file into the mod manager window while running or...
Place the .rar file in "..\modmanager\Games\RE0HD\Mods"
  2. If it doesn't appear hit "Refresh mod list" and install it from the list.
If you would like the Japanese voiceover for gameplay, cutscenes and movies, look to this Japanese voice-over[www.nexusmods.com] mod, as shown above in the "Audio" section above.
Conclusion

As always, thank you so much for reading my guide! I hope you found some mods interesting and that you tried a few out for yourself.

Feel free to comment if you are having any issues with mods, or if there are any you might want me to add to this guide in the future.

I always felt that someone should make a mod that would remove the sound effect that happens when you investigate something. The silence or ambiance of the room should be what you're hearing when you're looking at things and exploring, not a loud pat sound every time you check out a bloodstain or a corpse.
Am I the only one who finds that to be a problem? The RE 1 remaster didn't do that.
