======================================================

Have you ever wanted to be one of the non-immune mentioned in the TV & radio?

Have you ever wanted to live in true fear of the Knox Infection?

Have you ever wanted the true hardcore apocalyptic experience?

Have you ever wanted to subject yourself to punishment for seemingly no reason?

Well now you can!

======================================================

======================================================

Our characters within the Project Zomboid lore are lucky enough to be naturally immune to the airbourne strain of the Knox Infection.

This hardcore mod adds a negative trait that allows you to play as a character who was not so fortunate.

How does this mod work?
This mod adds the trait "Susceptible" as a negative trait for +11 points.

With the Susceptible trait, your character is at risk of contracting the airborne Knox Infection when near zombies. While getting close to a single zombie will not necessarily instantly render you infected, there will always be a chance! Naturally, the more zombies there are and the closer you get, the greater the risk!
(Zombie corpses do not count)

To survive you'll have to mask up!
You can prevent infection from the airborne virus by wearing masks, certain headgear, or hazmat suits!

Masks will degrade over time when worn- this is due to the number of potentially infected particulates dirtying and clogging the materials until they're rendered useless. This means that the more dangerous the air, the faster your mask will degrade.

"Resilient" and "Prone to illness" will also have an effect on the distance and chance of infection. Rumors also say that one time, a 'Lucky' individual got a face full of the virus, yet nothing happened. Unfortunately, he died he next day, so we couldn't confirm.

What masks/headgear can protect me?
Masks/headgear will protect you from getting infected when close to zombies.

For gameplay variety, we've added masks and headgear that may not necessarily be considered "air filtering". If this bothers you, roleplay that your character has a mask underneath their headgear to act as a filter.

Masks have varying degradation rates, becoming worthless when they reach 0 condition! Luckily, the degradation rates of the higher quality masks will take a long time if you avoid hordes!

Tiers are based on how long it takes for it to reach condition 0. No matter what the condition (unless 0), it will protect you.

E.g. A gas mask or a bandana both provide 100% protection, unless their condition reaches 0- then they stop working.

Fully repaired cars will also protect you. Should the windows break, you'll be in trouble!

Protection Level 6 = Most durable protective equipment (Will take longer to reach 0 condition).

Protection Level 1 = Least durable protective equipment (Will reach 0 condition quickest).

NOTE: Cloth masks are safe only up to 3 zeds. 4 zeds or more can cause infection!

You can craft a cloth face mask at the start. Use this to your advantage, but beware! It may struggle to keep you safe if the air is too polluted!

REMEMBER: Bandana facemasks will not protect you from full hordes, only a few zombies!

Any masks from mods you'd like included? Let us know!

How can I repair masks?

As masks will degrade it's important to make sure they're maintained. This can be done by certain items depending on the headgear/mask.

Note: Don't use bleach on a mask you're wearing!

Filters & items can be looted, as well as on special masked zombies that you may encounter.

How does the Mask UI work?
The Mask UI displays the condition of your mask.

The colour of the circle around the mask shows how close the mask is to failing. If it's turning red, then it's about to fail and you should get away from zombies!

You can also move the UI position on your screen if it is conflicting with other mods.

IF AN ITEM ISN'T SHOWN IN THE MASK UI, THEN IT WON'T PROTECT YOU

Additional Mod Features:
  • You can gain Stress from encountering zombies. This depends on mask quality, mask condition and no. of zombies present.

  • You cannot eat in "unsafe areas". When safe, upon eating actions you will automatically unequip & reequip your mask after eating.

Mod Compatability:
Items from the following mods are taken into account:
  • AuthenticZ
  • Better Masks
  • Brita's Armour Pack
  • Dive's Armour Pack
  • HEADGEAR
  • Paw Low
  • Project Fallout: Legionary & Ranger Armors
  • Project Fallout: Scientific Armoury

    IF IT ISN'T SHOWN IN THE MASK UI, THEN IT WON'T PROTECT YOU

    General rule: Only items that cover the user's face or mouth + nose give protection. Anything else will most likely cause infection!

    ======================================================

    Top tips & warnings:
    • You won't spawn with a mask, for added unprepared realism! Either craft a face mask or hide in fear like a true survivor!

    • The number of zombies present will change how fast your mask degrades. Try stay clear of hordes if unprepared!

    • Be careful to not fall over and drop your mask, it could mean your death if in the wrong circumstance!

Got this modified to work on build 42.7 but, cannot see the options for the Hotkeys that equip masks or change filters. Any one here familiar with what I might need to modify in the files to have the Hotkeys show in the Mod Options?

The base infection chance is 0.0034 ir says in sandbox, but how does this work if anyone could please explain?

If I am fighting 1 zombie without any protection, it means per... game tick? per second? I have 0.0034% chance to be infected? And if I fight two, does it double?

Estoy con la mascara del Insurgent y no me funciona :'c solo me sale el icono de mascara pero no me protege del virus y se suponia que era compatible

There is a crafting recipe for gas mask filters (at least of some kind). Either you can craft them or repair them or both, I don't remember.

So to answer your question, yes.

Can you somehow reuse gas masks filters?

idea: make a more hardcore version of the mod that makes it MUCH easier to get infected with the susceptible trait (the trait now also gives 23 points)

can i play this mod in b42
Hasa Mar 11 @ 1:17am
I play b41 with this mod and the vaccine mod, where you have to build a lab and research a vaccine. I also use another mod that allows the Susceptible trait to be removed with the vaccine mod. I think this is one of the best ways to play this game—it gives an end-game goal instead of just surviving endlessly. I'm excited to see this mod ported to 42.
