Saph's Maritime Asia: Indo-Pacific Supremacy (TSL)
Embark on an epic voyage through the Indo-Pacific region! Will you choose to foster commerical and cultural prosperity through ocean trade routes, or impose your rule through naval conquests? You decide!

Design Features
  • Conquer the Indo-Pacific:
This map covers areas including India, the Himalayas, southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea / Melanesia, northern Australia and Micronesia.

  • Navigable rivers:
The rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra, Irrawaddy, Mekong and Pearl are navigable to make traversing the map a bit more fun and challenging.

  • Choke points:
In addition to the presence of navigable rivers, choke points are also created on land by careful placement of mountain tiles. The coastal channels among the archipelagos also present plenty of opportunities for naval tactical manoeuvres. Don't think you can just steamroll across the map!

  • Accurate rivers:
More than 100 minor rivers are added to their real life locations (as accurately as it can be done on a hex grid). May your cities never feel thirsty!

  • Accurate terrains:
Mountains and hills are placed based on real elevation data[maps-for-free.com], and grass/plains/desert/tundra are placed based on USDA soil quality data[www.nrcs.usda.gov].

  • TSLs & modded Civ support:
True start locations (TSL) are included for official and several custom civs, city states and natural wonders. (If you would like any other modded civs to be added, please leave a comment!)

  • Map generated floodplains:
This YnAMP-based map has map-generated river floodplains, so dam construction and flooding events are possible.

Required Mod: Gedemon's Yet (not) Another Maps Pack

Recommended Mods:
  • Religion Expanded: This adds enough beliefs to vanilla's 20 so that you won't get locked if you are playing with more than 20 civs but haven't chosen a belief.
  • Prismatic - Color and Jersey Overhaul: This adds enough jersey colors so that you can play with more than 20 civs in one game. Otherwise some civs will get transparent colors.

Important note on getting custom city states to spawn
To get the above custom city states to appear on the map at their TSL, you MUST, during set-up, disable/uncheck "Only Civilizations/CityStates with TSL", and then manually pick all the city states that you want to spawn in your game.

Game Set-up
To play with advanced YnAMP settings, you need to
  1. Have this mod and Yet (not) Another Map Pack installed and enabled ingame
  2. Single Player --> Create Game --> Load Database (next to the BACK button) and wait for the game to load
  3. Once loaded, you will be back to the main menu
  4. Single Player --> Create Game (You should see a tick next to CREATE GAME at the top.) --> Choose Map Type --> Saph's Maritime Asia: Indo-Pacific Supremacy --> Advanced Setup

Recommended Settings
  1. Turn on Only Civilizations/City States with TSL
  2. Adjust the number of civs, city states & religions in the game to your liking.
  3. Manually pick the civs to play as/against or leave them random.
  4. Turn off Only Civilizations/City States with TSL and manually pick city states if you want to play with custom city states
  5. Select Natural Wonders: Everything
  6. Coastal Lowland: Choose Map Generator for random placement / Matching flatlands for more dramatic flooding / Empty for no lowlands
  7. Rivers Flooding: Choose Map Generator / Empty for no floodplains & flooding (and hence no dams)
  8. Resource Quantity: Your own preference (Resources are map-generated; this map does not contain pre-placed resources.)
  9. Civilization Placement: Choose True Starting Locations for accurate historical placement / Map Generator for random placement
  10. Enforce TSL: AI if you don't want the AI to stray from their TSLs
  11. Use Leaders TSL when available & Use Alternative TSL if required and available: On
  12. Allow random placement for civs without TSL: Off (You can turn it on if you want random placement for civs not in the list above)
  13. Real City Naming: On (This is only for the capitals for several civs which do not start at their actual real life capitals e.g. the colonial civs)
  14. Turn OFF No Duplicate Civilizations will allow you to have Gandhi, Chandragupta and SeelingCat - Rudrama Devi in India at the same time

Love this map, but are there any plans to make smaller versions, like with other TSL?
HAMMERMAN 8. Jan. 2023 um 18:10
I've been enjoying this map but I've noticed it's very common to have tiles that are surrounded on all sides by cliffs. This leads to disembarking a unit onto a tile they cannot leave from, or tiles that cannot be accessed at all (one tile islands surrounded by cliffs.)

Ah ok, I was not aware of that. I love your attention to detail. Thanks for the work you do ^^

@Alayne: It's intentional. The real-life Mekong isn't navigable from China to the sea because of the presence of the Khone Falls, which are represented by the Giant's Causeway on this map.

Excellent map except for one thing: the Giant's Causeway is blocking the Mekong River. I checked the NaturalWonders.xml file and found lines detailing the placement of the Giant's Causeway, so I don't believe it to be caused by any of the mods I played with. I assume it is not intentional?

@FelipeDos: Probably you have some mods in conflict with YnAMP
FelipeDos 5. Okt. 2022 um 23:00
Saph, all your maps are great, but I can't play any of them out because no strategics are spawning on land anywhere, only ocean oil spawns.

@SUGAR DARK: You have been spoilt by my recent maps. This map was made before I figured out how to make toggleable rivers. To make these rivers toggleable now would involve quite a bit of work.
SUGAR DARK 28. Sep. 2022 um 14:33
I think the Mekong and Yangtze rivers are too big.
River in the area of Burma as well.
It should be a small river.
I think there should be an option to enable or disable the river.
Thank you, I really like this map. *-*

@Tiger.23: Thanks for the city states suggestions. I'll look into them.

This map only has TSL for the official natural wonders. I don't play with Terra Mirabilis or Sukritact's natural wonders but I may check if they are compatible with my map when I have the time.
