Middle-Earth

Description
Comrade Sauron is back to rule over Middle-Earth!

It has been thousands of years since Gandalf and the Elves sailed west leaving Middle-Earth into the age of Men - it is just a matter of time until it gets annexed by the Soviet Union...

Follow the footsteps of Bilbo and Frodo in this map based J.R.R Tolkien's world for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The map includes most of the cities and places of Middle-Earth, where I tried to use the vanilla buildings that resembled the most with each city's architecture. It is compatible with the base game (v0.8.8+), no additional mods are needed.

Resources were added where they would best fit in the story line, and balanced for medium difficulty:
  • Mordor (south-east) is rich in Oil (to breed Orcs) and Uranium (source of dark magic), but the rocky terrain will make it hard to build there;
  • Bauxite, to make the finest Mithril (Aluminium), can only be found in the depths of Moria, at the center of the map;
  • Iron is only available in the North, in the Iron Hills and Grey Mountains;
  • Stone and Coal are more common around the map;
  • The Shire (west) is good for a small self-sufficient farming commune, if want to play in Frodo-Cosmonaut mode...

Other differences from the "real" thing:
  • map had to be scaled down (the game doesn't support very big maps), so the locations are closer together;
  • rivers were adapted a bit to allow navigation to the borders

Update 2022-10-08: Switched and reshaped borders (v0.8.8 new feature)

"It has been thousands of years since Gandalf and the Elves sailed west leaving Middle-Earth into the age of Men - it is just a matter of time until it gets annexed by the Soviet Union..." haha great humour! I respect the time you spent on this

@Pperson25,
I agree the mountains are a bit too steep in some places, the idea was to make it hard to go through the mountain ranges... this was also the first map I made - in my
Westeros map the terrain features look more realistic.

I won't make a modded version, as that would force people to subscribe all the modded buildings to play the map, and each person prefers different building styles.
You can always subscribe tudor style buildings (Novu's has many great ones!), and pre-setup the buildings in the map before turning on realistic mode.

God this map is so difficult to play on in realistic mode. Can you make a realistic start version with some modded buildings that are low tech themed? Like blacksmitheries and tudor style farm buildings, etc.

this is great although the mountains are just way too steep it makes no sense

Wow, one can really see that you have put a shitton of work in all these details. Even the Hobbit-Houses are integrated into hills. Truly a work of Art.

absolutely splendid! I just love how much attention to the details here! as far as what tools are available, this is the most fantastic map I have seen yet.:steamhappy:

@mprider2021, I understand your point, but moving the city+mountain would be very hard to do... In my game I added a small shopping center (Novu's Tudor Market ) connected to the tunnel road beneath the cathedral; plus some non-road service buildings (kindergarten/theater) on top of the south mountain, connected by pedestrian bridges/tunnels.
This should make the city functional, but for higher density buildings, it is better to expand to the open areas north or south of the mountain...
