The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth adds the formable country at the start date of 1936 with historical borders and several other tweaks.

Features:
_______

• modified states and provinces to best reflect the pre-1772 borders of the Commonwealth;
• new country color and flags for the Commonwealth;
• ability to restore historical puppets (Prussia, Courland-Semigallia, Livonia);
• compatiblity with the Soviet Union focus tree;
• most non-major cities and all states were renamed in Polish and Lithuanian languages within the territories of the Crown of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania respectively;
• alternate Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact spheres of influence (the German Reich will claim more territory due to the Commonwealth's territory being larger in the East);
• Vilnius, the capital of the Grand Duchy, was modified into a major city and will act as a secondary capital in the Commonwealth, meaning that capitulating the country will be harder.



Issues and Inconsistencies:

• the mod currently only supports the English language;
• the mod will conflict with other mods that change the provinces or states in the game;
• the national focus tree is currently the unmodified tree of Poland, meaning that some focuses might be bypassed and/or will not make sense;
• additional historical territories (such as Smolensk) are currently not available to be claimed or cored as the decision to form the Commownealth has been removed for both Poland and Lithuania;
• strategic air regions have been largely unmodified, meaning that air superiority and other aviational operations will be inconsistent with the Eastern and Northern starting territories of the Commonwealth;
• incompatible with post-World War 2 border shifting.



History:

After the Deluge invasions of the Commonwealth in the 17th century, the dual republic signed a peace treaty with the Russian Empire. Since the golden age of Poland-Lithuania had already been passed, massive internal reforms were needed to secure the country's independent future. August II deployed the Saxon army within the territory of the Commonwealth and threatened Peter I of Russia to remove his troops. The Russian Tsardom, being severely weakened after the wars with the Commonwealth and Sweden, decided to withdraw the Russian army from Poland-Lithuania.

The Szlachta, however, were not satisfied with foreign troops in Polish-Lithuanian territory which caused a civil war, resulting in the nobility's victory. Reforms were imposed in the republic which barred foreign monarchs from ever governing the state in the future, which aggravated most neighboring monarchies. Prussia, Austria and Russia were, however, not in a position to deal with the Commonwealth in the first half of the 18th century, so the republic had time to grow it's military into significant strenght, introducing a parliamentary monarchy, abolishing serfdom at the second half of the century and avoiding future conflict up until the Great War.

World War I saw the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forced to join the side of the Entente as the German Empire and Austria-Hungary began announcing claims on Danzig and Galicia respectively. The Commonwealth were pushed out of many Polish Crown territories, but were forced into a stalemate as Russian troops reinforced the Polish-Lithuanian troops. The frontlines remained stable up until the Russian Revolution and the weakening of German and Austrian forces. The Treaty of Versailles was eventually signed, restoring the Commonwealth's territory to it's former state.

Lenin's bolshevik forces instigated several uprisings in Ruthenian territories and also attacked the Eastern borders of the Commonwealth. Many battles were fought among the Dnieper river and near Kiev, but the Commonwealth managed to defend it's territory and suppress the uprisings since the German-Austrian fronts were now inactive. The republic successfully managed to secure it's territorial integrity.

In 1936, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had already developed into a significant force to be reckoned with, but the rising powers of the Third Reich and the Soviet Union have put the republic's future at risk. As a new global conflict seems inevitable in the nearest future, the republic will have to make important strategic decisions and prepare to fight either with allies or alone.
