Envoy-class Diplomatic Cruiser

Description
By Norseman

When faced with the sheer, unimaginable vastnes of space, the need for a central diplomatic service is readily apparent. Politics on a stellar scale is an ever-shifting, complicated mess at the best of times, and ordinary communications systems can take hours or even days to relay messages, at which point the message itself may have become obsolete or irrelevant. With lives and fortunes on the line, such risks were deemed unacceptable, and the Diplomatic Corps was formed in collaboration between the ruling bodies of dozens of colonies and hundreds of corporations and granted the authority to broker deals and treaties between the same. Each body (called a member) has any number of representatives working on their behalf, and more members are added on an almost weekly basis as more and more governments and companies seek entry into the body collective.

The Envoy-class diplomatic cruiser was commissioned by the DC to fill the role of conveying in comfort the various delegations wherever their attentions are required. While it is not unheard of for a representative to travel in a vessel created by their own faction, the Envoy remains the most popular choice of transportation given that it is immediately recognizable as being a diplomatic vessel - as to fire upon or hinder such a vessel carries with it the direst of repercussions.

Solidly yet elegantly constructed, the Envoy contains four staterooms for use by the chiefest members of the delegation and bunk space for sixteen more (to include the crew and support personnel). A large solarium located beyond aft of the living quarters grants passengers a view of the stars as they glide through space, propelled by high-powered thrusters.

The Envoy is a graceful and swift vessel that commands both authority and dignity, all reasons why it is the ship of choice for diplomatic representatives the galaxy over.

A Word From Norseman:
I have deliberately left the outer hull a white colour for YOU, dear reader, whether you be a corporate head or budding diplomat yourself. You have a blank slate to fill in your own insignia or fleet colours on. A TIP: When you do paint on it, be sure that you only use the default one click=one block painted, as the interior is all detailed with colour already (doors and floors and piping and such). See you in the black!

Changelog:

Initial release

Update 1: Acting on a suggestion from the community (thank you Sigma!) I've changed the protective shutters on the lounge, medbay and stateroom windows from being internal to external. Originally I had thought they could act as a last-ditch defense against explosive decompression (in that they would close), but given that they are static and (let's be honest) cosmetic, putting them on the outside where they could absorb asteroids and/or hostile fire before the glass seems a better use. It also frees up a bit of room inside each compartment.

Update 2: Removed the overhead gantries in the main corridor. Ever since the new update walking along it was hit and miss. On the plus side, the whole ship now feels a bit more open and less claustrophobic, which I think suits a luxury diplomatic ship better. Replaced and recolored the lights in the corridor and the stateroom entrance and expanded the stateroom compartment as a whole. Painstakingly labeled and organized every single door and light on the ship -- this took a long time! But can I just say that I LOVE the new grouping mechanic? It makes engineering so much more convenient!

Love the diagram you made showing the different sections of your ship and labeling it

Love your ship.

This is actually my most favourite ship I've piloted yet. Beautiful all over

Love your ships designs Norseman. Clean lines, well laid out, fits very nicely with survival worlds since they aren't laced with gyros and hundreds of large reactors and thrusters.

Posh, love the airlock idea. It's Great.

Actually, having knocked down a wall here or there, I figured out the best spot for access doors to the nacelles is actually on top of the catwalk, one block ahead of the corner (two blocks away from the engineering supplies containers) and one block behind the reactor fueling port, with a single stair on the inside of the nacelle leading from the door. Works beautifully!

I will note that there are no maintenance hatches to access the nacelle interiors, even though they're hollow. It would actually be pretty convenient to have a door there so you can repair them from the inside. Deleting a single Interior Wall under each catwalk in the engineering space and replacing it with a door works perfectly for that purpose (although for whatever reason you have to switch to first-person to be able to walk under the slat platforms, since in third person you'll bump into it -- not sure why a collision sphere should change depending on view mode, but that's an alpha for you =)).

The double-thick hull and twin hulls in a couple locations also strikes me as adding a bit of unnecessary mass and/or being wasted hull volume.

Otherwise, phenomenal!

OMG best space ship ever!!!!!!!!!! It'sjust a simple design not to big like all those others. Love it!!!
