PJG-M880 Piston Jolt Gun [Superseded]

Description
Vanilla / No DLC / No scripts

This piston gun has been superseded, I made a new one much safer and precise
This version now detaches the projectiles correctly, has sniper-like precision and is more polished, check it out here.

The PJG-M880 is a large grid piston gun that uses piston jolting to impulse its projectiles at enormous speeds with two rotors attached to the same head to break the speed limit.
This results in projectiles firing at about 880 m/s.

This is the merge block version which I made for those who have been experiencing problems with the gatlings, since it doesn't have any drawbacks, it'll work for everyone (at least I hope so) and I took the time to polish it a bit further, it's now the official new version.

You can still check out the old version here:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2436357647
I also explain more extensively all the dos and don'ts of the weapon there.

So, what's new?
  • Merge blocks instead of gatlings to detach the projectile, plus it won't consume ammo if you manage to build it in survival!
  • Slight increase in projectile speed.
  • Changed how the timer of the projectile activates (goodbye to the rotor of the chamber and the sensor of the projectile).
  • Revamped desing (mostly on the chamber).
  • A fancy precision scope. The projectile has an upward deviation caused by the same clang that makes it spin so I added a tilted camera that mostly compesates this.

Usage
You know the drill, activate the Experimental Mode and go bonkers.
To fire it search for a timer called ''PJG Fire'' and put it in the toolbar with ''Trigger Now'', you can't break it so don't fear to spam that timer.

When firing don't rotate the gun too fast or else the projectile will go boom on the muzzle, moving it (with the keys) seems fine.

Since the core itself of the weapon is still the same as the old version, it has the same failures:

There is a certain problem with the CoM being on a certain place making the gun explode when shooting, for the most part you won't encounter this, but to make sure I'll explain.
  • On light ships (about the size of the gun) or single rotor turrets make sure to prevent the main CoM of being on the gun. The CoM will be irrelevant on heavy enough ships or the vertical axis of double rotor turrets.
  • For Double rotor turrets the horizontal axis still consists of a single rotor so use landing gears to lock the rotor in place (the rotor lock won't do).

The double rotor spins, and so will do the gun, and so will do the ship, if you're gonna leave the ship for a while put the gyros on override.

    Piston Gun Stats
  • Mass: 228072 kg
  • Blocks: 543
  • PCU: 3067
  • Muzzle velocity: ~880 m/s
  • Range: ~26km

    Projectile Stats
  • Mass: 6763 kg
  • Blocks: 6
  • Countdown: 30s

Hope you like it and enjoy the fireworks.

Thank you!

CoM means Center of Mass.
As for your problems, the gun needs a stable surface to work safely (a working ship), if it's not attached to anything, the gun itself needs to be a station, otherwise the phantom forces will make it spin and explode, and on the ship, you probably place the gun inside the CoM on the vertical plane, put the gun on the front of the ship and it should work well.

Very cool build btw

What is CoM? Why does it keep going kaboom when I have it attached to nothing, or attached to ship about 6 times the total mass of the gun?

Placing 2 rotors next to eachother on a base and pushing the head with a pistion at max force un til the other one is connected.

How did you manage to connect two rotors to one rotor head?

This thing looks great while firing. Watching the mechanism function is endlessly satisfying.
