Description
"Human! Are you craving a new race to play with? Do you wish for a new playstyle, plenty of lost limbs, cheap and shoddy wares, Beep, ant-colony-like shenanigans, and entertaining chaos? If you said yes or no then this mod is for you!"

Rimhivers is a lightweight mod (no new apparel, no new weapons, no special race-oriented stuff, just happy little bug-men) that tries its best to blend a new race seamlessly into the vanilla setting, it adds a new race known as the "Hivers" to the game, a sub-race of insect like humanoids that have found their way off their hostile home-world, and into the stars. The race itself originates from the game "Kenshi" by Lo-Fi games.
The types of hivers overall have their own weaknesses and respective strengths, compared to humans they are all weaker, cheaper, and overall need to play off of each-other to survive; promoting a playstyle that utilises large numbers; quite like your own digital ant-nest. (Though they also fit in with a colony of humans, and can fill in their niche work gap pretty well!)

Hivers are granted a few bonuses: they all have 50% toxic sensitivity, they eat slightly less, they don't mind eating raw or awful meals, most of them don't mind sleeping in barracks, they move a bit faster, they have slightly lowered physic sensitivity, they are slightly more tolerant towards the heat, and each type of hiver has a specific work speed/yield bonus for what type of labor they specialise in, ie. worker drones are great at plantwork & mining, but not crafting or construction.

And all hivers suffer a few weaknesses: hivers are generally weak, they have have slightly shorter lifespans, they have fewer and weaker body parts/limbs, they have slightly less tolerance towards the cold, and finally each type of hiver is limited in certain types of headwear, namely soldiers due to their funky head shapes - though to make up for this soldier drones have a small amount of natural armor.

This mod adds two new factions, The Civil-Hive & The Savage-Hive - the civil hivers are a more trade oriented people, while the dreaded savage hivers are militaristic in nature.
The mod also adds hiver specific backstories depending on if they've been exiled or not, a plethora of unique names, and a few other small details!
This mod also adds one last special type of hiver; The queen - every ingame month she can lay an egg that can hatch into an entire hiver colonist making for a self sustaining hiver colony, though you will need to find a queen of your own somehow..

- Q: "CE?" - A: Yes.

- Q: "Is this mod balanced?" - A: Yes, each drone has a strength and a weakness, when you recruit a hiver for your colony you're trading certain stats for other stats, ie. less health, but better work speed; although queens are a bit wonky on the power-scaling side of things, I tried my best to balance them. Luckily if you do not like powerful pawns - if you're playing a normal playthrough you might never even see them!

- Q: "Is this mod finished?" - A: Yes, no new features besides the occasional bug fix and update consistence will be added.

- Q: "Does this mod add anything new besides the race itself?" - A: Only a new kind of egg, but you will likely never find one if you don't have a hiver-queen, besides that all it adds is two factions and a race!

- Q: "Does this mod work well with the 'Ideology' expansion and 1.3?" - A: Yep! In fact, hivers make the perfect race for slaves.

- Q: "Will we ever see Fogmen?" - A: No, I've mulled it over and found that they would just become a clutter faction that may take away from the overall experience of a playthrough. The more factions, the less chance of being attacked by killer robots! :D

- Q: "Will we ever get a Biotech only version?" - A: Yes, once the Biotech version releases this version of the mod will be depreciated.

- Q: "Do you have a Patreon/Kofi?" - A: Yep, you can find the link below.

If you really enjoyed this mod, or like what I'm doing here's a link for my Ko-fi page if you'd like to lend a tip! https://ko-fi.com/vexedtree73525

If you have a apparel mod who's headgear clips oddly through the hivers heads, you can go into your mod directory, go to the 1.3 ‘races’ def folder, and add a quick def in the <apparelBlacklist> line with the defName of that apparel to both the savage and civil hivers, DM if you need help or would like me to update the mod with the apparel mod you're using in mind.
You're 100% allowed to poke, dissect, and prod this mod's code to see how it works and to learn from it, infact I've left a couple notes throughout the mod's XML for fledgling modders.

If you want a few mods that play well with this race, try: "Hive Armory", "Kenshi Armory", "Rim-Shek", "Rim-Skeletons", & "Rim-Hivers: Queen Scenario Patch".

Credits: (An immense thank you to the Rimworld modding community, Erdelf for their framework and help, Neronix17 for their amazing help with the C# coding needed for hiver queens to reproduce, Sharpedo-Dressed Man for their original "hiver race mod" which inspired me and helped me figure out some basic race xml stuff, Krazy for helping me with factions, AlienRaces discord for helping me out with the code, CopperMonster/Mayonnaise & Heretic Malowe for their amazing patch mod and for lending a hand, the Kenshi mods "Expanded Name Set" & "More Names!" for some of the names included in the mod, Hohen for fixing a long lasting issue with leaderless hives, and Lo-Fi Games "Kenshi" for their original race, game, and the sounds the hiver make when harmed. Check them out!) If you have a suggestion or a bug please let me know, I will try my best to fix/add it for you!

I'm having a similar issue to jaisenberg, Hivers are just a white square for me. Not sure what's going on, could it be because of Biotech?

Or if you are okay using dev tools you can spawn one in and recruit them via cheats.

You'll have to either use Character Editor to manually add one to your start, or kidnap one from a hiver colony. There are also a couple of scenarios you can download from the workshop but I'm not 100% sure they work.

Where do I get a queen to start a new colony? I've been sitting here resetting the colonists I want over and over again, and a queen has yet to appear!
