Mercenary Armies

Description
Warning: With other units added to the merc roster this now conflicts with any mod that edits the feral_export_descr_unit file. Additionally it utilizes my other mod, which rescales units so that Huge is slightly less large to ease pathfinding while maintaining a larger size (e.g. legions 180 to 120, pikes 240 to 180). I will release a separate version with the regular sizes soon.

Cannot believe it deleted everything I wrote

Mercenaries are fun, and historically many factions made extensive use of them. However, due to the actual gameplay, this is not well represented for all of them. So I made changes to the mercenary regions. If you look at the image, all the green regions are new mercenary recruitment regions separated from their old groups. These have a modified and more varied pool, and their neighboring and former partnered regions have been adjusted to account for the greater density of mercs. One example is Carthage, now they have a mercenary pool only found in Carthage's home, which will spawn barbarian, Greek, as well as African mercenaries.

Yeah, green and such regions are new. They have edited merc rosters. Yellow/orange regions are largely just rebalanced with the new pools in mind.

Mostly Greek colonies spread out hoplite mercs, Naked Fanatics found in western Iberia, Northern Gaul/Belgium area, Central Europe, Dacia, and Galatia. Falxmen mercs in Dacia, Illyria, and Central Europe. A buffed Greek Cav unit (as a precursor to adding thessalian cav) that has the defense of Greek cav but more attack. Found around the Aegean and south Italy.

I had a lot more written but don't have the will to type it all out again rn. Balance might not be 100%. Feedback welcomed. Enjoy

Good Mod. Doesn't change the feel of the vanilla game and helps out other factions to deal with the romans in the early game.

Is it saved game compatible?

@MSTVD no I just added existing units from different rosters to the mercenary pools. Just naked fanatics, falxmen, and the buffed Greek cav. No custom models, and only the cav has stat changes. I had a better write up but got deleted, busy with finals rn.

There are entirely new units in this mod?

The recruit time could be something like 4-6 turns instead, maybe 4 for infantry and 6 for cavalry. Not outlandish, meaning youll get to recruit them if you want, but when you compare it to the 1 turn recruit time of most faction units, the ai wont go for it and mostly neither will the player. 1 mercenary vs 4 faction units in the same amount of time is no contest. However, it might allow undeveloped settlements to produce strong units right off the bat. Could also make the recruiting cost really high.

@ChrisM1A2 yeah I saw your mod, was cool to see that several of us came to different solutions to what we see as a problem

And yeah making it absurd to recruit could work, and while it would be very "gamey", I am sure many people wouldn't mind. Something to consider. I swear I thought I heard someone say before release that mercs would become retrainable in the remaster but it seems I was mistaken.

Being able to retrain mercenaries can be accomplished by adding them to building's recruit list and adding faction ownership for that unit, as my mod does, but this also makes mercenaries recruitable. As far as I've seen, there's no way to be able to retrain something without also being able to recruit it (though, could set the mercenary turn build time to something excessive, like 999 turns, so that you can retrain, but it's not feasible to recruit.)

@Javes I couldn't find one for RTW, only the general TW Modding discord. Do you know the name of it or have a link?
