The Essential Guide to Multiplayer (TruckersMP & Convoy)

This guide walks through all the essentials you need to get set up and connected to TruckersMP, plus tips and tricks that you'll want to know about along the way to enhance the multiplayer experience. These are some of the most frequently asked questions I've received over many years of playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and TruckersMP, so hopefully this answers many of your questions and gets your on the road quickly.

Also has some information about Convoy, the official SCS multiplayer!

1. Getting started

So you've got Euro Truck Simulator 2, played a bit of the game, and you want to try out the multiplayer experience. Lucky for you, it's not too difficult to do this. TruckersMP[truckersmp.com] is an unofficlal, community-run and made game modification that adds an MMO-like experience to the game, with multiple servers that have thousands of truckers.

What you'll need:

• A Steam copy of Euro Truck Simulator 2
  
• At least two hours of playtime*
  
• A public Steam profile during registration (explained in the video below)

*Despite the mod only requiring two hours of playtime, it is strongly suggested that you spend a bit of time in singleplayer familiarizing yourself with truck controls, game interface (eg. how to service call), and optimizing game controls to fit your needs.

This is because TruckersMP is a moderated environment - that is, there are gameplay rules you must follow to ensure servers continue to have an environment that fosters simulation and positive interaction with other players. Failure to do so can result in TruckersMP moderation taking action that prevents you from connecting to their servers.

2. "Sandbox" profile / game save

TruckersMP adds a level of unpredictability to the traffic, so unless you are comfortable and have enough reserve cash on your profile, you might want to consider downloading the sandbox profile below. This profile contains extra money, garages in every city, and is compatible even if you don't have any DLCs.

To use this profile:

• Go to the Google Drive page.
  
• Click the icon on the top right to download.
  
• Inside the .zip folder that you download, there is a folder (named "53616...")
  
• Move that folder into your Profile folder (C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles)
  
• Load the game to access the profile.

This profile has €900+ million, garages in all base game (vanilla) cities - that means no DLC required - and at least one truck dealership for each brand discovered so you can purchase trucks online. Safely go trucking without risking your regular savegame!

3. Dev (drone) camera & console

Activate the developer camera and console

The developer console allows you to execute several extra functions in the game. This can range from cosmetic to practical, and can be useful to have enabled to use at any time. When not in use, the developer console is completely invisible, and has no impact on gameplay when inactive.

To activate the developer console and use the developer camera, follow these steps:

• locate Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder (C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2).
  
• right click on config.cfg file and open it in Notepad.
  
• change the following variables from 0 to 1 and then save the file:
  
  uset g_developer "1"
  uset g_console "1"

If these are not currently in the config.cfg file, feel free to simply add them by copying the two lines of text above.

Using the developer camera

The developer camera, sometimes called a drone or freeroam camera, allows you to view the map without it being tied to the location of your truck. You can essentially 'fly' around to look at the area (or even view a completely different city). To use the developer camera:

• hit the 0 key on your keyboard (below Function keys, NOT NumPad).
  
• use your NumPad to control the camera.
  
• if you are in single player, you can use the F9 key to teleport to the area your camera is currently at.

NOTE: teleporting using the F9 key is disabled in TruckersMP.

Using the developer console

To access the console, use the ~ (tilde) key, located just above your Tab button. Clicking this will open a window where you are able to execute commands. Here are some of the most useful commands you can use:

• goto cityname (teleport to specific city)
  
• g_fps 1 (FPS counter, g_minicon 1 must be active for this to work.)
  
• g_minicon 1 (persistent developer console window)
  
• g_force_economy_reset 1 (reset freight market)
  
• g_flyspeed 100.0 (change speed of drone camera)

4. Play ProMods Europe on TruckersMP

ProMods[promods.net] is a community-made map modification to Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. For the ETS2 version of the mod, ProMods makes significant changes to the existing map created by SCS Software (both vanilla and DLC maps), and adds new regions and countries not normally available in the game (such as Iceland, Ireland, Israel, and more).

Install and launch ProMods:

• Create an account or log in on the ProMods website[promods.net]
  
• Click ProMods Europe on the homepage
  
• Generate your def file with your preferred settings and download it
  
• Click to the next page to download the rest of the mod package
  
• Select either the Premium download or the Standard download
  
• Premium download: pay €1 for a high-speed download of the entire package in one file
  
• Standard download: free, 300kbps throttled download split into multiple files. Note: you must strictly follow the requirement to only run up to two downloads at maximum. Failure to do so may result in you being temporarily unable to download any files.
  
• Extract the package using 7-Zip or WinRAR. In total, you must have four standard files (assets, def, map, media) as well as several model files. These must all be in .scs file format.
  
• Move these files to your mod folder (C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod
  
• Launch TruckersMP and select a ProMods-enabled server.

5. Convoy trailer (single player teleport)

When you drive on TruckersMP and with friends, it helps to get jobs that go to the same destinations so you can all continue to drive together while progressing. This is the single player teleport method of syncing up your jobs.

• You must have the developer console active before continuing on.
  
• Open Euro Truck Simulator 2 singleplayer
  
• Open the job market (Freight or Cargo Market).
  
• Sort the jobs by destination.
  
• Find all the jobs going to the convoy destination.
  
• Select any job going to the convoy destination.
  
• Open the developer console by hitting the ~ key (above the Tab key).
  
• Type in goto cityname, replacing cityname with the pick-up point of the job you selected.
  
• Move the drone camera close to the pavement in your pick-up location, at the green indicator.
  
• Hit F9 to spawn your truck and accept your job from the company.
  
• You do NOT need to pick up the trailer.
  
• Type in goto cityname, replacing cityname with the departure location of the convoy.
  
• Move the developer camera close to the pavement in a non-collision zone (ie. repair shops, hotels, etc.).
  
• Hit F9 to spawn your truck and trailer in the departure location.
  
• Exit Euro Truck Simulator 2 singleplayer.
  
• Open TruckersMP.
  
• Log in and you're ready to drive with the convoy!

6. Convoy trailer (Virtual Speditor)

When you drive on TruckersMP and with friends, it helps to get jobs that go to the same destinations so you can all continue to drive together while progressing. This is the method of syncing your jobs through using an external application called Virtual Speditor.

• Go to Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder (C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2)
  
• Open config.cfg in Notepad.
  
• Edit the following line and change its value to 2.
  uset g_save_format "2"
  
• Run the game (and specifically launch the profile you're using)
  
• Close the game.
  
• Open File Explorer, and navigate to (C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles), then go into the folder that has most recently been modified, then go to the 'save' folder, then into the 'autosave' folder. You don't need to take further action at this point, but you'll need to be in this folder for a later step.
  
• Download the Virtual Speditor[forum.scssoft.com].
  
• Extract the downloaded file using WinRAR, 7-Zip, or an equivalent file extractor.
  
• Run the Virtual_speditor application in the folder.
  
• Go back to the autosave folder you have open from earlier, and copy the file location.
  
• Return to the Virtual_speditor window, input the file location, then hit Load.
  
• Fill the relevant fields to select options for your job locations, then Add Cargo.
  
• Once you launch Euro Truck Simulator 2 or TruckersMP, the job will be available in the Freight Market.

7. Downgrade game

When Euro Truck Simulator 2 updates, it doesn't always get immediately supported by TruckersMP. During these periods, you must downgrade your game in order to continue playing multiplayer. Follow the steps below to downgrade:

• Open Steam.
  
• Click Games.
  
• Click View Games Library.
  
• Right Click on Euro Truck Simulator 2.
  
• Click Properties.
  
• Click Betas.
  
• Click the dropdown menu to select the beta you would like to opt into.
  
• Select the currently supported version for TruckersMP.
  
• Let the game downgrade (Steam will initiate a download that you must complete before launching TruckersMP).

You'll know you need to downgrade your game when you receive an error trying to attempt to launch TruckersMP. Other ways to know the latest non-beta version of the game is not currently supported:

• In the TruckersMP launcher, the top left box shows currently supported versions.
  
• On the TruckersMP website and forum, a banner will appear alerting users to downgrade if needed.

Remember: this only needs to be done early on after new game releases, when TruckersMP needs a brief period to deploy their updates to support the new game version. Outside of these brief periods, TruckersMP is usually compatible with the regular, non-beta game release.

8. Install the winter mod

Annually around December to January, TruckersMP releases support for a winter mod to add seasonal effects and more challenging driving conditions to their servers. The 2020/21 season is ongoing right now. Downloading and using this mod is slightly different from your typical mod installation. Follow the instructions below to get it running:

• Visit the TruckersMP website[truckersmp.com] for the latest winter mod download links
  
• When using the free download options, exercise caution and select the correct download links. Don't fall for phishing attempts.
  
• You are required to have the base file, while heavy winter add-on files is optional.
  
• In C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\ETS2MP, create a folder called mod.
  
• Move the winter mod files you downloaded into this new folder.
  
• Launch TruckersMP and connect to any server (including any ProMods server), and you should have snow!

Note: As of Dec. 22, the physics add-on is not supported on TruckersMP.

9. Play Convoy, the official multiplayer

Convoy, the official multiplayer from SCS Software, is now built directly into the main Euro Truck Simulator 2 game. Yes, that means it's not an external mod and will continue to be developed and maintained by SCS Software themselves.

You can play Convoy with your friends in a local session, which adds AI traffic to your mutliplayer gameplay. This is available as of the 1.41 update.
