Report a translation problem
1. You could have the JSDF have very low manpower. The JGSDF has (currently) around 150,000 active personnel. The JSDF could have a system where they trade political power for manpower or equipment to be sent through the Gate.
2. There could also be an event where the JSDF gets the option to honor the Mutual Defense Treaty (which was handwaved in the anime/magna/novel) and invite the US giving them access to tons of equipment & manpower. But this runs the risk of the US taking over the entire operation.
