Gliese class corvette

Description
[VANILLA] [NO DLC] [NO SUBGRIDS]

The Gliese class corvette was designed as a relatively cheap and easy to build, yet effective warship. High speed, manouverability, and firepower (for its size) are its main characteristics.

Lacking guided missiles or other high-tech, subgrid-needing devices, the vessel might be at a disadvantage when faced with such enemies. While the threat of guided missiles can be countered effectively with good piloting, high aceleration, and use of short jumps to dodge, the perhaps greater threat of small grid turrets, with their high firepower can pose a bigger problem. However, these drawbacks are countered by the fact that the Gliese is much simpler to build than any such ships, allowing for faster production rates and simple maintenance.

Like many of the newest ships developed, the Gliese is based on a sphere with an equatorial ring hull. This desing provides ample volume for its mass, whilst the ring provides needed extra surface for thrusters and weapons. Another benefit of the spherical desing is an equally fast turning rate in all directions, making the ship highly manouverable. The decks are arranged perpendicular to the main thrust array, allowing the vessel to land easily on planets. Similar to its larger sister, the Betelgueuse, its not well suited for atmospheric combat when compared to dedicated airships, though.

The Gliese features the traditional “prow first” approach to combat, equiped with a heavily armed prow with imbeded decoys to draw enemy fire. Propulsion is mainly based on hydrogen, with a backup of ion thrusters.

Really nice to find a spherical design ship on the workshop. Older SF is full of ships on this concept.

a sphericle ship, interesting... I personaly like, it's unique

also, I plan on (eventualy) making a ship that has robotic fighters controled by antena. When the fighter you are controlling dies (Camera, remote, pb or antena, or many of the thrusters, also when it's out of ammo), you are disconnected, and start controlling the next one, and you just use it's camera. Meanwhile your previous fighter tries to return home, is completly repaired, restocked with amo, and goes back in the hanger. When done, all fighters are recalled, and tugs are sent out to retrieve thedestroyed fighters, while mega-tugs take the enemey ships carcas and take it to the grinder! No one can beat me... hey, there should be a wall there *gasping*
