Description
The queen of the skies

The Bristol Brabazon, Named after Lord Brabazon who lead the wartime Brabazon committee dedicated to designing post war passenger airliners, was the largest aircraft drawn up by the the committee.

Designed as a Luxury airliner, with an interior to rival ocean liners, it was made to transport the richest of the rich. Despite the aircraft being gargantuan in size, and for a time being the largest airliner ever concieved, The plane had a very modest capacity of 100 passengers max.

This decision to focus on luxury rather than capacity, proved one of the brabazon's greatest failures that lead to its inglorious downfall, combined with its underpowered propeller engines. As airliner technology was rapidly advancing, Jet engine technology was being developed and the first jet powered airliner made its flight, the Brabazon was too large, too uneconomic and too underwhelming, resulting in no airlines expressing intrest in buying it.

It lumbered around farnborough airshows for a long time between 1949 and 1952, untill it was decided it would be cut up for scrap.

While i did watch mustard's video of this aircraft (he even knows i made this !) i actually knew it way before that video from a book about strange and often failed aircraft. The Brabazon always stuck in my mind for some reason, 9 years later i finally got to givr it a place in CSL...
