Euro Truck Sim 2 Sign/Road Marking Explanation and Rules (v1.2)
Autorstwa: Brorean
This Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) guide is mainly for U.S. gamers unfamiliar with European traffic signs and rules. It includes the following
  • a thorough explanation of road signs and road markings you will find in ETS2
  • when speed limit is Miles Per Hour (MPH) or kmPH (kilometers Per Hour)
  • when to drive on the right-hand side or left-hand side
  • other tips

Sign Basics
There are three basic types of traffic sign: signs that give orders, signs that warn and signs that give information. Each type has a different shape. As well as shape, the color of a sign gives its function. All triangular signs are red.

Sign
Description
U.S. Equivalent
Circle signs give orders
Tend to be vertical rectangle signs
Triangle signs give warnings
Yellow diamond signs
Rectangle signs give information
Tend to be horizontal rectangle signs
Blue circles generally give a mandatory instruction, such as "turn right"
Tend to be vertical rectangle signs that are in black and white
Red rings or circles tell you what you must not do, such as must not exceed 30 mph
Tend to be vertical rectangle signs that are in black and white or use red strikeout circle (no U-turn)
Blue rectangles are used for information signs except on highways where blue is used for direction signs
Green horizontal rectangle signs
Green rectangles are used for direction signs on primary routes
Green horizontal rectangle signs
White rectangles are used for direction signs on non-primary routes
Warning Signs
Warning signs use the red triangle shape and generally give warning for upcoming road junctions, lane narrows, two-way traffic, roundabouts, or sharp turns. For junction warning signs, the broader line has the right of way. Below are some examples I have seen in the game and probably does not contain them all.

Sign
Description
Crossroads
T-junction
Side road
Roundabout
Bend to right (left if symbol is reversed)
Double bend, first to the left (right if symbol is reversed)
End of divided highway
Two-way traffic
Road narrows on both sides
Road narrows on right (left if symbol is reversed)
Regulatory Signs
Most regulatory signs are circular. A red ring/circle indicates a prohibition, while a blue circle generally gives a mandatory instruction.

There are two exceptions to the rule, the "STOP" sign and "GIVE WAY" sign. The "STOP" sign looks and works exactly the same as the one used in the U.S; you must stop before the sign and road markings:

The "GIVE WAY" sign works like the U.S. "YIELD" sign; you must yield (give way) to the traffic on the major road. A noticeable difference is that the "GIVE WAY" sign is used in intersections which would have a "STOP" sign in the U.S..

Other regulatory signs seen:
Sign
Description
No entry
No passing
Turn left ahead (right if symbol is reversed)
No parking
No stopping

Priority road. Traffic on a priority road has the right-of-way over other traffic at all intersections along the way.
End of priority road
Speed Limit Signs
Sign
Description
Maximum speed
The national speed limit for the type of road and class of traffic applies
Area where speeds cameras are in use
Reminder that enforcement cameras are in use
Road Markings
Center line on a single lane highway road:
Lane line separating traffic traveling in the same direction:
Hazard warning line. The marking is also used on the approach to a junction:

Double White Lines
These are used to prevent passing where visibility is restricted, and to separate opposing traffic flows on steep hills with climbing lanes. When viewed in the direction of travel, if the line closest to you is continuous, you must not cross or straddle it. Where the line closest to you is broken, you may cross the line to overtake.
Highway Signs
The highway information signs used in the game are similar to ones you find in the U.S.. On the approach to a junction, direction signs are placed in advance and at the exit point.

These signs are used on the side of the highway, where there is a deceleration lane. The number of lanes through the junction remains the same:

Countdown markers indicate the distance to the start of the deceleration lane. Each bar represents about 100 yards:

Overhead sign for junctions with deceleration lanes, where the number of lanes through the junction remains the same:

Signs located at the side of the highway where one or more lanes leave the main road to become the exit road. This type of junction is known as a lane drop:

Overhead sign for a lane-drop junction:

The U.K. Versus the Rest of Europe
The United Kingdom and Northern Ireland uses left-hand traffic, so unless directed you must travel on the left side of the road. In addition to having left-hand traffic rules, the speed limit is indicated in mile per hour (MPH). All other European countries in the game use right-hand traffic rules and the specify the speed limit in kilometers per hour.
Kilometers Per Hour to Miles Per Hour
Using 1 kilometer (km) is 0.62 miles you get the following table:

KmPH

The game says that the 30 KPH is 19MPH, just wanted to let you know. (Mostly used in the newest DLC). Don't want anyone getting any un-needed speeding tickets for the game being a bit tetchy with the speed. :)

the 18 mph would normally be for school and playground areas at active hours with 30 for roadwork and 30-40mph for urban-suburban areas
