SS Botany Bay - DY-100 Class

Description
SS Botany Bay
No Mods and survival ready!

DY-100-class sleeper ship

Built On Earth and launched sometime during the eugenics wars hundreds of years ago, the DY-100-class vessel was originally designed as a freighter to supply the initial expansion into the solar system. The SS Botany bay was hastily converted into a sleeper ship by a group of genetically-enhanced Humans escaping earth following their defeat by humanity.

Sent out amongst the stars in hopes of someday reaching a distant star system to found a colony of augmented humans there, the crew was placed into cryogenic sleeper beds for their long journey. Knowledge of the ship fell into the realms of myth and was mostly forgotten by humanity.

Design:
The DY-100-class vessels were launched from earth via a traditional launch pad vertically using several detachable solid fuel booster rockets to get the ship into space. Once the fuel was expended the boosters were discarded on its way towards it's destination. Power is provided by twin nuclear reactors and backup battery packs to ensure long lived operation of life support. Vast stores of oxygen and hydrogen is also essential. This is a sub-light speed ship incapable of warp. Travel to distant plants takes a very long time which is why the crew is expected travel in cryo sleep for the journey.

Once the vessel reaches its destination, the crew is awoken. The ship enters an edge gravity orbit and releases the cargo pods over the intended colony site. The crew, careful to launch each pod spaced apart just enough to keep them from colliding as the parachutes are deployed. Once the cargo pods are released, the main ship core structure turns and burns back out to a stable orbit to be left behind as a communication and refuelling sattelite.

Each cargo pod is equipped with basic life support systems, including a survival kit, a beacon (off by default but should be turned on prior to release), A control seat with gyro controls (if needed), Dual Parachutes, and landing gears to lock the pod to the ground to prevent rollovers. Pods are also equipped with mission specific equipment such as cryo beds, cargo and factory facilities for everything needed to start a colony on a distant world fast.

Featuring:
1:1 size at ~104m long!
Accurate in scale to depictions from the show.

My desire with this version was to think what such a ship might look like if it were built in the late 20th century and this is the result.

Enjoy!

I've always wanted to put something like this together, including something not unlike the cargo pods you have there. Very cool, awesome to see someone else's implementation of this!
