Ultimate Lighting + Random Weather

Description

INTRODUCTION

TW: Warhammer 2 has a beautiful world, varied and detailed environments but they are limited by some unusual choices, like the weird and washed out colours, the lack of weather variety and the absence of night battles.

This mod is a complete overhaul of the environment lighting and weather of all maps in the game, it tunes the daylight to be natural and nice, also it introduces night battles along with more weather variety.

Screenshots are taken with this mod only, no reshades or any other stuff.

Features:

- Reworked the lighting of more than 300 maps, more realistic and natural colors for a solid and varied atmosphere throughout the whole world.

-All the maps have random weather and lighting, taken from a different lore-friendly pool for each region.

For example: No snow in desert, jungle or wasteland, no rain in desert, little chance of very light snow in central regions such as Empire or Bretonnia, grim weather in vampire region and corruption, foggy\polluted weather around volcanic areas, etc.

The same map can happen at day, night, sunset, rain, etc. - Note that sunny daytime have more chance to happen than the other presets.

-Gameplay first: all the maps are made with enough visibility to ensure proper gameplay (e.g. no too dark nights or excessive fog)

- The fog in all maps has been reworked. Little fog in sunny days and more fog during thunderstorms.

- The Sun and the Moon have been reintroduced for most maps, enabling their textures.

- The Sun and the Moon have custom position in the sky to better fit with each map preset.

- The Grass main texture for Empire lands and Lustria jungle have been replaced with a smoother one (first screenshot).

Known issues

-Some underground battles are linked to the Skaven outdoors battles. This means that if I change a tunnel map, the Skaven outdoors will look bad and viceversa, so I decided to leave all the Underground maps\Skaven forests as they are in vanilla.

-Some maps are hard-coded to have one preset only, expecially quest battles, This means they can only have 1 weather and no variations. Example are quest battles, Empire forts, some siege map, etc.
For those specific maps I've tried to make an appropriate lighting that fits the theme.
Luckily, they are the minority, let's say 5% of the total.

-Norsca only allows for 2 variations, so I made day+snow and night+snow.

-The rain will disappear at max camera height with camera mods, it seems like the rain cannot be rendered over a certain camera height.

Compatibilies

This mod for obvious reasons is not compatible with others environment lighting mods because they edit the same "weather" file.

NOT COMPATIBLE with "Alternative Lighting", "Improved lighting and weather", "Improved battle weather", "Hazard environmental lighting" mods.

Each of those mods has its own flavour and I highly recomend to try them all and stick with the one you like the most.

It should be compatible with anything else, included mods that change the lighting for the campaign map.

COMPATIBLE with GCCM: GCCM is compatible, althought the random weather may get not polished results.
I've tried to make specific lighting for those maps but it creates a bug in custom battles menu for those who do not use GCCM and it will be unfair to give them this annoyance.

Important!

Please check and adjust your brightness and contrast levels in the game because every computer is different.
Once you have found the correct balance, it should work on all maps since i reworked all of them while having the same settings on my pc.
For reference, my values are: in game options Gamma: 20 and Brightness: 12 \ on Nvidia Control Panel B:50 C:55

-Don't use DX12 on Nvidia cause you lose some effects.

-Set VFX to ultra to see rainstorms.

-Set fog to high for better lighting and cool effects like godrays. Set to low for more performance but worse look.

-If you restart a custom battle without exit to menu the weather doesn't change because the map is already loaded. If you want another weather you have to go back to map menu and relaunch the battle.

About the tone of the mod

I want to make clear that this is not a "Dark and Grim" mod.
The Warhammer world is not a perma gray-sky where you want to suicide as soon as you wake up, it is a mimic of our planet earth.

This means that in the lore there are a lot of places that look bright and colorful, such as the Bretonnia meadows or the beaches of Ulthuan.

Also, I don't like visuals that are depressing and boring-brown like Attila, so if that is your preference I am afraid this mod is not for you.

Here you will find sunny vacation beaches, vibrant meadows and lush forests.

There is occasionally "dark" stuff, but only where it makes sense, for example during thurnderstorms, in Vampires territories, in corruption, near volcanoes, etc.

Feedback and Bugfixes

Any feedback would be appreciated.

If you think a map should have a different feel, please give suggestions.

I am trying to polish constantly as much as possible, but if you find some maps with bad lighting or bad quality compared to the others, it is possible that I've missed it or I am unaware about.
What I need to fix it:

If it appears in Custom Battle menu, tell me its name.
If the map is not present in custom battles (such as generic fields\standard battles), tell me the region of the map (e.g. lizardmen jungle).
Providing a screenshot will also help me in figuring out the issue and fixing it sooner.

Since many asked for, I cannot add the second moon, I am sorry but I don't have the necessary skills for that.
Only someone with textures knowledge can do it.

Special Thanks

This was made thanks to this useful guide by Oblivious which introduced me to the lighting for this game!

Thanks to Creative Assembly for creating a very complete lighting system and the best skyboxes I've ever seen in a game.
The hero that created the skyboxes for this game has definitely earned his paycheck and I hope he will keep doing this for all TW games.

Enjoy!

having this mode enabled caused a lot of other mods like "create custom lord", "region trading" etc to not work for me

Are there chances of having battles at night and raining at the same time?
It would be a good idea to add for the Warhammer 3´s mod if it is possible

If we install this mod, do we still need Campaign Day\Night Cycle?

It's not clear if Campaign Day\Night Cycle is already included in this one.

@andarara i have no issues with this mod and frame rates myself, maybe 1 or 2 FPS at most

Hi, does this affect the framerate and loading time of the game? I am also asking for the same mod in Warhammer 3 as well

Seems like a good idea in theory but I always end up with these color graded battles where I can't see the units clearly.
