Long answer: I think some people complain about the helm being too sensitive and fast on manual mode. This is an on-purpose design decision. It's recommended to run it in auto mode and drag around the manual waypoint and it's jumpy enough that it gets good performance this way. Why? Because I'm lazy and don't like being tied to the bridge as captain the entire round every round. Deal with it.
Would it be possible for you to make an updated version that's just as small, with more storage (crate shelves and the like) and firepower capability (rail gun mounts)?
