Machine Gun Nests

Description
Sandbags with a machine gun on top. It fires rounds with a high fire rate at the enemy.

Mod contents:
- General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)
- Heavy Machine Gun (HMG)

Requires:
- The 'Gas operation' research in the tech tree
- GPMG: At least 6 construction skill to build
- HMG: At least 8 construction skill to build

Materials:
- 5 textiles stuffs (any fabric or leather) for the sandbag the gun sits on
- Steel for the gun
- Components for the gun

Machine guns must be manned to fire, and they need to 'reload' their ammunition belts after a while. This uses the vanilla 'barrel change' mechanic that the vanilla mini-turrets use. Keep some steel nearby!



Future plans:
- Custom code to make the machine guns only fire in a frontal 180 degree arc


Shout-out to XeoDanNoav for the inspiration. I wanted to have a simple, stand-alone version of his machine gun nest, so I made this mod.

Kind of a necropost, but this works and boy does it WuRK...
But I cant see it. It looks like the pawn is basically spitting bullets over the top of the sandbags.
Other than that this is pretty fun.

i gotta say this mod is the mod, that makes it possbible to play the game without killbox even later in game

While i got a simple idea to reduce the angle: If u make it necessary to build a U around.
like 2 walls on the left, 2 walls on the right, the mount is on the bottom of the U.
Maybe even a O is the best idea closing the upper arc of the U with a door, so it doesnt shoot back.
Makes it a complete Foxhole. While i dont know how complex the needs can be defined

It has to be reloaded more often compared to the GPMG.

Eventually I do want to add custom placement code so that you can choose to place the gun on sandbags or barricades of your choice (rather than them being included with the weapon).

TYVM, has the HMG any weak point to the lmg?
And can u make it also placeable on barriers?

Updated for RimWorld 1.2, and added a new machine gun: the Heavy Machine Gun.

Sure. I wasn't sure if anyone was still using this. I've got some RL obligations to sort out, sometime next week I'll update the mod to 1.2 and look at adding something new.
