- Generic shield block - Gain a stack.
- Scatter - Gain a stack. Secondary target gets rolled upon with the stack bonus.
- Scatter into miss or shield block by second target - End with a single stack. Not two.
- Aim at rear unit but fail cover check so you roll against blocker unit instead - No stack gained before rolling against blocker unit, gain a stack if you miss the blocker unit or if absorbed by shield.
I think you were asking about the fourth interaction? Does this answer the question?
Small fix: The formula for Forged is 100 - 0.05 * (Total Armor)
I will take that into mind when doing a spear bro from now on.
For what it is worth most factions where spearwall is good don't have any Polearms.
I don't think the interaction is a bug though. Scattered shots will do two rolls, once against the original target, then again against the new target. Since Overwhelm is applying on attack rolls that seems consistent. Fast Adaptation works similarly in that you gain a stack during the scatter, which can then help you hit the second scatter target, slightly offsetting the innate 15% scatter penalty to hit chance.
The battle log for a scatter reads:
"... uses Quick Shot and misses ...
... uses Quick Shot and hits ..."
This is a single shot, not two! The scatter basically considers a single shot as two separate shots and applies two overwhelm. I am actually curious if this is intended as it currently is or should maybe reported as a bug.
Very cool idea, thanks for the hint!
If you have the Blazing Deserts dlc then a different option for an Overwhelm ranged support would be a Handgonne build since it doesn't do anything with scatter mechanics and you can overwhelm a bunch of guys at once in a set AoE as long as you can line it up right.
Another question (Bug?): My goal was to create an archer support, with bullseye and overwhelm shooting the back ranks and make use of the "If a ranged attack misses and scatters to another target then both the original target and the scatter target will gain a stack" mechanic. However, it doesn't work all of the time (or I misunderstood the point). I was shooting an ancient legionary in the back rank and a shield blocked it in front of him. Only the shield legionary got a stack of overwhelm..
Am I missing something? Is "shot goes astray" the scatter mechanic you are talking about?
Battle log reads:
"... uses quick shot and the shot goes astray and misses Ancient Legionary
... has hit Ancient Legionary's shield for 1 damage"
Technically the best pick for a 40% Barbute line is the Necromancer Surcoat with Bone Plates.
