Dark Age Rush or Early Adopter Achievement

This is a guide for those of u who have not yet gotten the achievement "Dark Age Rush or Early Adopter".

In the guide i will explain how i got the achievement in 2020 long after the DLCs and main game were released and bought.

Step 1

Navigate to your library and select "Age of Empires (2013)"

Step 2

Select "Support".

Step 3

Select a DLC. (When i did it i selected Rise of the Rajas)

Step 4

Select "I want to permanently remove this game from my account". Don't worry you will still own this DLC and will be able to get it back as soon as you get the achievement.

Step 5

Select "Ok, remove the listed games from my account permanently"



You should then get this message.

Step 6

Now launch Age of Empires and go to any campaign mission (I went to Joan of Arc 1st mission).

Lose the mission by deleting all your units etc.

As soon as you get the defeated message / return to the main menu the achievement should pop.

Step 7

Repeat step 1, 2 and 3.

Remember to re-select the same DLC.

Step 8

Select "It's not in my library".

Step 9

Select "Restore the previously removed package to my account".



You should then get this message.

Step 10

Celebrate because you finally have this dumb achievement. :D

@VyKingPyro - Cheers but I already solved it and forgot to remove my comment. I uninstalled the game and unchecked all the DLC I had in "manage my DLC" in the steam library. Then I reinstalled. So yeah unticking the DLCs as you said there.

Same version as current was used. Play a campaign then unlocked it.

@Cyclonic, do you own all the DLCs? If not, purchasing one of the remaining DLCs, and following this guide should get you the achievement.

But if you do own them all, the only other solution I know is the Patch 4.3 method.

Try as follows:

Change these settings for AOE2 (2013) by right clicking on it in your library
properties -> betas -> beta participation, change "none" to "patch43 - Patch 4.3"
properties -> DLC, untick all the DLCs

Run game and play a campaign map. Close game and undo the above changes. Run the game again and play a campaign map.

I bought the game as a bundle together with some DLC. Steam only gives me the option of removing it all at once (And then readding it all at once. Are there any legitimate alternatives for getting the achievement?

Worked like a charm! I noticed when I removed the "Rise of The Rajas" DLC, the game changes the version from 0.4.3 to 0.4.4.

Fantastic guide! I can confirm this works even if you are playing the game from another account's library.

All you need to do if you don't own the game yourself is do steps 1-5 exactly as the guide says on the account that actually owns the game, then swap over to the account you want the achievement on for step 6 and pop it. Then you can go back to the owning account for steps 7-10 if you'd like.
