Arma 3 Apex: Old Man (Beta)

Description
This Steam Workshop item contained the beta version of Arma 3 Apex: Old Man. All of its content has now been integrated into the Arma 3 vanilla platform via update 1.98. An empty item is retained to preserve all the links and information about its original purpose as beta. You are recommended to unsubscribe from this item, as it is no longer needed and considered deprecated. Over the course of the beta there have been many fixes and improvements. Bienvenue, “Old Man”. In this open-world singleplayer scenario, you assume the role of a retired Legionnaire, who – together with a familiar CTRG operative – attempts to avert a catastrophic CSAT power play on the island of Tanoa.

This experimental scenario is a Bohemia Incubator project developed by Bohemia Interactive. It is available as free bonus content for everyone who owns the Arma 3 Apex expansion.
  • Shared Armaverse
    After the events of the Arma 3 “The East Wind” and “Apex Protocol” campaigns, the South Pacific island nation of Tanoa is hit by yet another humanitarian crisis; a malaria outbreak. When authorities fail to distribute an effective vaccine, a local veteran is tipped off about a possible plot and sets out to uncover the truth.

  • Open World
    Return to the beautiful Horizon Islands and discover their many hidden secrets. Travel by land, sea, or even air – and stay in one of the many shelters to save your progress. Populated by CSAT soldiers, Gendarmerie officers, Syndikat rebels, civilians, and IDAP aid workers, Tanoa draws you right into its long history of conflict and turmoil.

  • Sandbox Gameplay
    “Old Man” presents you with a varied set of objectives, but how you accomplish these is completely up to you. Get creative and make good use of Arma 3’s diverse selection of weapons and explosives. Just remember; all missions are a matter of life and death – so consider your tactics, prepare your loadout, and always have an exit strategy ready.

  • Experimental Design
    Our goal with this scenario is to provide freedom of choice and let real world logic apply to what you can (and cannot) do. At the same time, we have added a few convenience features to keep it fun, such as the option to wait and skip time, and the ability to fast travel between known safe houses. Additionally, you can choose to purchase all equipment directly on the black market – if you have enough money, of course. Lastly, Old Man's reputation system means that your actions can influence your relationship with Syndikat, which in turn determines their support for your cause.

  • Free Content
    This free bonus scenario for Arma 3 Apex offers more than 10 hours of game time. It also comes with a new static M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, and adds new assets for community content creators to use, such as a Tanoa CSAT reskin of the Zamak truck, a red beret, malaria-infected civilian characters, and various decals and inventory items. These extras are currently only available as part of this Workshop item but will be added to the Arma 3 base game for free in a future platform update.

How to play
Follow these steps to start the “Old Man” scenario:
  1. Subscribe to this Workshop item. Your Steam client will then download and install the required data.
  2. When the download is complete, you can start Arma 3 on Steam. This will first open the Arma 3 Launcher. Here, you visit the MODS tab, and load “Arma 3 Apex: Old Man (Beta)”. Then hit the PLAY button to launch the game.
  3. In the Arma 3 main menu, go to SINGLEPLAYER, choose SCENARIOS, select "Old Man" and click on PLAY.

When can I expect the official vanilla release of Old Man?
Whether or not the Old Man scenario will see an official vanilla release depends on the feedback on the (Workshop) beta version, as well as our internal resources and priorities. However, assuming everything goes according to plan, we wish to release the finished version of Old Man in 2020 via a free Arma 3 platform update.

Will there be updates of Old Man's beta on Steam Workshop?
Yes, we do plan to publish several updates with fixes and improvements. However, please be aware that savegame progress may be lost when we update. Find more information – including a way of backing up the actual version – in this forums post[forums.bohemia.net].

Is this scenario localized into all Arma 3 languages?

hi. after collecting the captive ID i can t seem to end that task. the mission doesn t appear and even by dropping the ID at the stash it doesn t conclude the mission. anyone fixed it ?

Eh.. sounded great, but at the first millitary checkpoint the idiot on my right just keeps waving, and nothing happens. I perfectly parked my car next to him, where it needed. So it bleeds out at the start for me.

Best scenario of the game. Immersive, dramatic at times, makes you think thoroughly about preparation,

Only fault is it's almost impossible to use the gamemode in your own scenarios. Far too complex.

Barring that, would recommend any day.

@Kiloton Perhaps you might want to explore the scenario a lot more. Gather some more resources, discover caches, steal some gear, learn and experiment with the disguise system. It is well possible to be swimming in all types of resources (tactical gear, weapons, ammo, money, etc) before even attempting that task.

I'm convinced at this point that there isn't a single open world mission that doesn't expect you survive without a cheat mod.
"Here's a double barrel, now go steal explosives and blow up a building while crawling through a sea of cops and CSAT. You don't need any armor or support. Behold our realism."

The code to this is too ambitious. It's extremely delicate if you're play style is unorthodox.

I need to know how to do this mode on another map. How can I make a scenario with this logic for economies, notoriety etc be copy pasted onto any map I want??
