Description
[Vanilla|Survival Ready|Subgrids]

A simple and ridiculously overpowered "thruster" that works everywhere and for free. It generates about as much thrust as 4 large hydrogen thrusters.

The PDD-3 Piston Door Drive™ is a type of clang drive utilizing an exploit, where pushing stuff against doors creates a ghost force that pushes your ship forwards. The biggest problem I had to overcome, while building it was to get rid of the devious influence from Clang. For that reason I used an interior pillar that is pushing against the bottom of a door. There is still a slight bit randomness left, but for the most part, it works like a charm. Just like the mass shifing drive, it generates torque when not properly placed in line of the center of mass. The result of that you can see in the video.

This drive works without a script, but you can use the Clang Drive Manager Script for 6-axis wasd control and inertial dampening

If you can't place it, although you have enough space, remove the subgrids, place it, add piston heads from the terminal and add the pillars back in. It's just the subgrids getting in the way and preventing placement.
For building it in survival you also have to add the subgrids by hand.

This drive includes 3 pistons and doors, but technically you only need one each. You can just add more, remove some, etc. whatever you want. You just need to make sure you have all the blocks and the pistons are set up correctly.

Example ship here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1967890328

Building it in survival is as easy as copying the layout of blocks (piston with pillar and a door infront) and installing the script. The only thing you should do is increase MaxImpulseAxis to 5 MN. I can't do this from within the script for some reason. It just increases the power, nothing more.

Some stats:
-Blocks: 29
-PCU: 668
-Mass: 7.9 t
-Force: ~30 MN (about 4 large hydro thrusters)

How to use:
-Place it on your ship (in line of the center of mass!!)
-To toggle it on and off simply reverse the piston group called Pistons_PDD
-(Optional) Install the Clang Drive Manager Script for 6-axis wasd control and inertial dampening

Ok Cool, thanks!

you can have one on either side of the center of mass, that's fine, it will cancel out. If you have just one on one side, it will work too, but it will also make your ship spin, so how like a physically accurate thruster would work.

Looking at some of the pictures the doors don't seem to be in alignment w/ what I would assume is the center of mass?
In picture 5 for example, the top and bottom doors of both engines would be misaligned right? Is there any significant detriment to this or is it fine as long as it's balanced

Thanks

You can stack them however you like, the armor blocks are just there to hold the doors in place, you don't need them
