What is a Freighter in No Man's Sky?
A Freighter is a colossal interstellar starship found in No Man's Sky. The player may purchase a freighter using units, or gain a free one through a mission, and customise it using the Base building system. The freighter can warp to other star systems or summoned to the orbit of the planet (or moon), where the player is currently located. It also allows the player to store their secondary starships on board.

There are several regular freighters with up to 19 slots of inventory and two designs of small, medium, and large visual sizes for capital freighters with up to 34 slots. One of them is reminiscent of the Venator Star Destroyer of the Star Wars universe.

Freighter Classes
Freighters have different class ratings, similar to starships: C, B, A, or S. Higher class freighters may have higher slot count and better hyperdrive modifiers.

Some additional tips to increase your likelihood of finding a good freighter, as in your video you went to a 3rd tier Mining economy, the reason this worked in your video is because mining economies produce a LOT of materials so the likelihood of large high cargo freighters is much higher. You can also find them in product creation economies and economies that generate a lot of waste products. The in-game economy is way deeper than I've seen mentioned anywhere online, including the fandom wiki, those 16 subsections for loop A and 12 for loop B are much more important if you're looking to maximise not only profit, but also the frequency of S-Class ships that are targeted more towards the specific economies, so it works for ships too. If you want the latest upgrades to a thing go to an economy that focuses on those types of products.

Given that Steam and Youtube are separate ecosystems perhaps it may be better to have a written description in this guide of what the video contains, then you've got a Steam Community guide instead of just a link within what poses as a guide.

Thanks Athena. I had figured out soon after but then again it may spare other people some time trying.

@Zenothing

If you haven't figured it out yet, you transfer the items by clicking "Compare" then moving the items over, then clicking swap/exchange.

Questions (if this post is still active): can one transfer inventory items between freighters during exchange? I see that the warning (+/- minute 9:47 of the video) mentions that you should transfer the items "before completing)" the exchange.

Can this be done and how? And are the structures built inside a freighter automatically ransferred to new one, like fleet command, storage etc. or can you recover the materials used to built, like in the case of the deleted bases?

Great guide, but do you buy the freighter or do you take it because you shot up all the pirates? If you have to buy it then I am about 174 Million short at the moment. I have no free freighter of which others speak.

I have no idea what to do with the crashed freighters other than open up the storage cubes and flee radiation leaks. I also do a bit of terraforming to uncover as much of them as I can.

I am at the stage where on my base I have been given the mission to attack pirates and I think Apollo wants me to do the same. I don't know if I have a good enough fighter ship to take on a freighter yet. I usually win when my battles when I get scanned but I am getting better.
