Description
"My lord! A glorious unit roster will soon be yours!"
-Unknown Samurai

I always felt that the vanilla Shogun 2 unit roster lacks variety. So I decided to balance out most units from the "Weierstrass Unit Mod" to be compatible with vanilla units. Not included is the battle and abilities revamp from the og mod.

Info: Mod file name will always stay as Weierstass_Units_for_vanilla_v1.0 since there is no way for me to change that other than reuploading the mod with a different named source file name.

What does this mod add:
~50 new Units to conquer Japan with (Veteran Ashigaru/Samurai, new Heros, and many more)

Reminders/ Need help with (Please post/mention mods that have fixes for them):
-Otomo Conquerer Hero will not show both lance and matchlock at the same time but can still use both(I'm unable to get a working animation as lance and gun are held at the same time unlike the vanilla saber/gun combo)

Known Issues/ To-do list:
-Without FotS Terco / Portuguese units won't be recruitable.
-Unit cost and stat balances (since all changes are done by me alone)
-Some Bow units sound like cannons. Try running either Sinfonia Semplice or other sound-fixing mods. (Edit: Reinstalling the mod also seems to fix this issue.)
The issue was fixed by adding the original mods sound files into this mod.
optional now:
Edit: Using the Unofficial Shogun 2 Patch 1.7 also fixes the problem.

(Requirements):
-All clan/unit DLC's (mod should work even without them but I recommend having at least the unit DLC's since some units are based on them)
-The models mod

My other (optional) mods :
- Terco voice fix
- Garrison mod
- Terco variety patch

Compatibility:
-this mod should work with most mods and savegames but no guarantee from me.
(Hint: Disabling the mod halfway in your campaigns will of course lead to crashes due to missing units)
-Using the original mod may cause problems and thus isn't recommended.
-Using Expanded Japan or any similar mods are strongly discourage do to them editing ai unit recruitment behaviour !
How to "fix" Expanded Japan:
  1. download & set up a mod tool called Rusted PackFile Manager (RPFM) used for most TW games.
  2. open/start RPFM and click on PackFile then OpenPackfile
  3. go to the Shogun 2 data folder (.../Steam/steamapps/common/Total War SHOGUN 2/data) and open expanded.pack
  4. navigate to "db/cdir_desire_priorities_tables" via doubclick (clicking the arrows)
  5. now you need to make a choice. Both choices will solve the issue but with slightly varying results A)delete the "cdir_desire_priorities_tables" folder (hit delete or rightclick + select delete). The game will use a default version of this folder, so no worries. B) Open "cdir_desire_priorities" and replace all 0 entries of "CDIR_DESIRE_UNIT_UPGRADER_ARMY" with the native default of 5000.(Hint: Expanded might also edit other entries/desires)
  6. Save the edited packfile with a new/different file name and your done.

general info about mod compatibility:
I don't specifically test my mod for any mod compatibility since that would be very time-consuming and too dependent on multiple variables that I can't control. So I kindly ask everyone with similar questions to refrain from asking and use trial and error, aka just testing it yourself, and report any incompatible to me so I can put it into the description

Troubleshooting guide:
If you encounter any bugs like missing units or your screen getting dark while hovering over a unit please try the following steps:

1.Check if you run the english version of shogun 2 (right-click the game in steam library->properties->language->select english) This is a must since text file paths are different between languages.

2. Reinstall the mod by unsubscribing and then subscribing again.
(This usually fixes most problems. Sometimes Steam seems to corrupt the download/ some files are missing and so it's advised to download the mod in one go)

3. If step 1 unsuccessful: Check if you use any other mods especially other unit mods.

4. Try disabling other (unit) mods one by one and then start the game. This roots out any mod compatibility problems. (Disable only 1 mod and then start the game, you probably have to do that multiple times when using a lot of mods)

5. When everything above fails then please post your mod setup and the affected unit(s) in greater detail in the troubleshooting forum so I can try and have a look into the issue,

Else please consider filling out the troubleshooting form below (makes my life and yours easier):

What is the issue?
-(describe what the issue is in a short but detailed manner e.g Unit model/picture missing, unit not being recruitable, etc.)

Which units are affected?
-(mention all affected units or classes in detail with the full name of the units, e.g Ikko Ikki Bow Ashigaru. The Clan name is important as Clan improved/unique units are game-/enginewise their own respective units with their own entries.

Where does this happen?
- (choose one of the 3 options: [campaign map/(custom) battle/other], if other is selected please elaborate it aka. during loading screen, starting the game, etc.)

When/How often does it happen? (if applicable)
-(mention the times it happens aka. always, sometimes, rarely, etc.)

Further details not covering the abovementioned questions
-(post additional stuff here e.g mods used etc.)

Credit:
-Big thank you to Engineer Weierstrass for creating his mod and allowing me to publish this mod. Check out his original mod!
Most stuff like the mods preview picture, unit models, unit cards, etc. are obviously made by him / I edited them to suit my ideas and goals.
-Model for Otomo Portuguese Musketeers are from Mount & Blade: Fire and Sword and was made available in S2 by Willhelm
-A certain person for beta testing and providing new ideas.

They did record generic voicelines (at least for infantry). The issue is that assigning voices to units is for some reason primarily decided by the description text entry (not sure why or how it works, just that it does) and the Terco description text doesn't work when given to other units. Years ago I went through forums like Total War Center to check if they contained a viable solution but no luck. The "solution" I used isn't my original, I just adapted a know trick posted in 2013 and replaced & renamed some files resulting in this mod . Using it replaces the "Royal Marines ..." line with a generic one but isn't mandatory and more for immersion plus portuguese cavalry units will still only have a single voiceline when selected but no additional for attacking, retreating, etc. like the infantry does.

yeah i mean i don't even know why the devs didn't record unique portuguese voicelines for them

You only need FotS for the Otomo Clan since their new Terco units are technically coded as FotS units so they can respond when selected or when moving. This is to circumvent an infamous bug/quirk in the unit voice system causing normally coded Terco units to be 100% silent (see other mods who add Terco units). To get them to speak I gave them the same voice as Royal Marines (FotS unit) because they share the same voice actor and roughly 99% of the voice lines except for a single one where the unit may respond with "Royal Marines ays ays sir" instead of a generic line.

Someone in the S2 community provided me with an simpler Alternative to my workaround but that only worked for infantry and not cavalry (or any other unit type) in my initial test a year ago.

just curious is fall of the samurai needed for this mod or is it just that i wont have certain units?

Okay, thanks for the answer!

From personal experience, AI army composition without any "AI improvement mod" like Universal AI (UAI) or similar mods is really bad. By default, the AI tends to spam certain units including any added or new units and it also relies on cheats & tricks to keep up with the player since it's bad at the management part of the game (i.e. constructing buildings, researching tech, etc,). Thus I recommend using any AI mod of your choice, but keep in mind, that these aren't a universal remedy for all issues and sometimes only mitigate some dumb behavior.
Schnell_Scheisse May 24 @ 3:43am
How does the AI handle the added units? Does it spam low level units or have balanced armies in the campaign?

I'm not sure what is going on there but my guess is that your mod is faulty/corrupted since it isn't showing up correctly up in the mod manager. The mod manager should always either automatically fill in mod name + description or at least uses the filename as modname + something like not published for local/non workshop mods. Consider unsubbing from the mod and deleting the packfile, then resub to force steam to start a fresh download for the mod again. If this doesn't fix the issue I sadly can't really help you any further.

I have a big problem with this mod. Since the 2023 update related to the mod manager, the mod doesn't show up anywhere except \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\34330\1878707871 and when I pasted the mod into the mods folder in shogun 2, the mod started showing up in the mod manager but when I double-click on it it has no name or description and when I turn on the game it immediately crashes to Steam. I guess it's not the mod's fault but I need to know what's wrong.
RavenBuster  [author] Mar 23 @ 8:01am
It's shold be in: ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\34330\1878707871.
Any mod released or updated since the "new" mod manager (ca. 2023 IIRC) now uses the common workshop path instead of the "old / legacy" ...\Shogun\data path.
