[WOTC] BRIGADOR Soundtrack

Description
THE ELDERS ARE DEAD .
ADVENT MUST FALL .
HERE IS YOUR CONTRACT :

Replace XCOM 2 music with diverse synthesized beats of 2016 ruthless mercenary simulator
"Brigador: Up-Armored Edition"

Music Modding System is mandatory for this mod to work.

====================
FEATURES
====================
  • 36 new unique tracks replacing almost everything, minus technical limitations of Music Modding System (MMS).
  • Instead of looping the same track forever, the music randomly shuffles through different tracks on the go, as it does in "BRIGADOR" (minus few intentional exceptions).
  • Some tracks might have sound cracking, radio interference and other spooky sound effects in them. That's in there by design.
  • When i said that tracks are diverse - i meant it. There's a couple of subgenres of techno and synth.
  • Hand-picked track sets for abandoned cities, retaliation missions and "high-stakes missions".

====================
KNOWN ISSUES
====================
  • All of them.
  • The mod seems to be causing freezes of some kind when attempting to load music. Most noticeable in main menu upon game launch. Other music mods didn't seem to cause it, and intense investigation into code / soundcue differences for any possible causes revealed nothing. The mod JUST does that, and apparently its normal. I can only shrug.
    Good thing its a turn-based game with no time limit, am i right?
  • Combat music might occasionaly hang around after all visible enemies are dead. Supposedly inherent to the game itself.
  • The mod can't replace the music during Skyranger flying back after the mission - inherent to MMS.
  • The modded music refuses to play during Avenger Assault missions in all forms. I couldn't figure out why and can't fix it. Which pisses me off to no end.
  • Post-mission music after Skyranger makes it back to the Avenger occasionaly will refuse to play, and will play vanilla music instead. Supposedly inherent to MMS.
  • The music will play over cutscenes, making them obnoxious to watch. Inherent to MMS.
  • Music might behave weirdly in unusual music behavior situation (like Lost Towers DLC mission, especially the gas part).
  • Some compositions were not included, due to either having no purpose or for being disliked by the author of this mod. I'm sorry, but "March" is driving me insane.

SPECIAL THANKS
====================
  • Robojumper for making MMS.
  • E3245 for making a tutorial on how to make this mod, as well as providing consultations.
  • Stellar Jockeys for making "BRIGADOR".
  • Various Composers (but primarily Makeup and Vanity Set) for making music for "BRIGADOR".

BONUS FUNCTION: CHANGE HQ/GEOSCAPE MUSIC
====================
Initially i wanted to have specific music for each chapter of the story, but unfortunately there's an issue: having different soundcues for HQ and GS causes them to override each other, resetting the music, which was not an option for tracks that go for 5+ minutes and with minute-long intros.
However, this does not happen if soundcues are the same.
So i made a decision to have one specific track (that found no purpose anywhere else) to play in HQ forever.
But soon i came to a conclusion that the track might get repetetive with time (even though its 8 minutes long), and also that it might be just too depressing.
So, after having a BIG BRAIN MOMENT i decided to leave a backdoor just in case someone will want to change that.
  1. Go to: ...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\1819016541\Config
  2. Open XComStrategySound.ini
  3. Immediately you should see this:
    +MusicDefs=(MusicID="BrigadorHQ1", \\ CuePath="BrigadorOST.HQ1", \\ Group=eSSG_Chapter01) +MusicDefs=(MusicID="BrigadorHQ2", \\ CuePath="BrigadorOST.HQ1", \\ Group=eSSG_Chapter02) +MusicDefs=(MusicID="BrigadorHQ3", \\ CuePath="BrigadorOST.HQ1", \\ Group=eSSG_Chapter03) +MusicDefs=(MusicID="BrigadorGeoscape", \\ CuePath="BrigadorOST.HQ1", \\ Group=eSSG_Geoscape)
  4. In CuePath="BrigadorOST.HQ1" for each block change 1 in "HQ1" to either 2 or 3.
    DO NOT change MusicID.
HQ1 plays "From the Ashes of Yesterday" by Gavin Singleton - a slow, depressing and haunting track.
HQ2 plays a random shuffle of 10 ambient tracks you would normally hear in tactical missions.
HQ3 plays "Into the Fields of War" by Makeup and Vanity Set - the only cheerful and optimistic ambient track among the entire soundtrack.

Do remember that if chapter's soundcue and geoscape's soundcue will not be the same - they will override each other and reset the music any time you will go into geoscape and back. So having same soundcue in all 4 blocks is preferable.
This will also happen either way if you let Avatar Project reach critical levels, as i programmed in special track just for the occasion.

@Token
Most likely not as i moved onto other things. I considered it way back then, but... Learning a new vector of modding just wasn't on the menu, not too mention that it appeared too obscure.

Hello there, this is personally one of my favorite soundtrack mods on the workshop. I was wondering if you ever planned on doing a WWise version of this mod. I do realize it's quite a few years late to be asking this.

This is a perfect fit for XCOM, thanks!

Hard to believe Hotline Miami's soundtrack hasnt been ported in here.

probably, but whatever happens with memory management it increases a lot the frequency of game crashes. surely other mods may be contributing to the issue (maybe some models may have more polys or something), but only after i disabled the ost mod the game has been working mostly ok. few slow downs and so far no crahes.

i will check later another ost, and will update your after. i really like this ost, si hope if with this i can help a bit to make it work better sometime.

Easily. Never had game crashes myself, but i do experience a good 5-10 seconds freeze when loading into main menu and my save files. Its not even specifically my mod (at least i hope so) - it's music mods in general. Something about how the game doesn't pre-render (or otherwise prepares) moded data, and manually re-renders it whenever it gets called for during game session. I know it sucks and i hate it too, but such is the price of musical mods so i got used to it and its just part of my experience.

Have no comments on crashes though. I know about freezes, but crashes? Unless something changed with the game and musical mods are straight broken now - i have no idea. If its really that bad you'll have to play without it.
For experiment's sake - try to download another music mod and see if its any different.

ive been playing with your mod, but recently ive experienced loading issues and more frequent game crashes when loading save files or starting a mission. After disabling your mod the game seems to run better.

Could the issue be related to the quality of the sound files or how they were compressed what causes the loading issues?
Artek [General]  [author] Jul 22, 2021 @ 3:31am
It is. You can even see it on this page: steam supports ability to "link" required mods and as such on the right side of page under "requied DLC" you should see "required items" and MMS is linked there.

is this the right file: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=757398474&searchtext=Music+Modding+System ?

there are other mods that include the name in their title.

The one where you usually get to pick between XCOM:EU / Default / TLP music packs?
That's because its not supposed to.
Music Modding System brute forces the tracks to play in the game bypassing whatever you picked in the game's game settings. In fact, the in-game chosen music pack will play whenever MMS will fail to play (as for example back-from-the-mission loading screens).
