Tony "TNT" Tubbs had a remarkable toolset in boxing, fleet of foot, fast of hand, with natural defensive instincts and good size for a Heavyweight. However, a lack of discipline would keep Tubbs from consistently dominating at the top of the sport.

Born in 1958 in Cincinatti, Ohio, Tubbs grew up in a large family in the projects, one of nine children in his family, and sought boxing out to move up in life. He quickly became a top amateur, winning multiple medals and served as a sparring partner for Muhammad Ali, a honor he took great pride in.

By 1980, with the United States boycotting the Moscow Olympics, Tubbs turned professional and went on a solid win streak, defeating James "Bonecrusher" Smith and beat Greg Page for his share of the Heavyweight title. A defense against Tim Witherspoon saw Tubbs show up out of shape, and lost a close decision. A challenge against Mike Tyson resulted in a quick knockout in Iron Mike's favor. Tubbs would fight on, losing a close, disputed decision to the up and coming Riddick Bowe and won a single night tournament in 1993.
